Dual tip exhaust options...
New user here... hello to all. Just purchased an '02 PSM WRX w/ only 30k miles on the clock.
So I've been reading the FAQs and I've decided that I would like to start researching options. I'm looking for a dual tip exhaust in the form of either a full TBE or a CBE coupled with a downpipe using the stock midpipe. I know this is very subjective, but I'm looking for something that has a nice sound to it, but will not wake up the neighbors at low speeds and no highway drone. So far I've seen a lot about Bosal and Stromung (sp?) dual tip systems, but have no idea where I would buy one and about fitment with existing stock parts. Any help is appreciated, even if it's only to point me in the direction of a thread to read. -Evan

I am using the Borla Hush CBE with a Helix catted DP...love the sound, and it's not loud at all. There's quite a few sound clips of it around...maybe check the video section.

I suggest looking into the B&B 3" catless TBE. I've had that system for about 1 1/2 years now. It has a flat style muffler, dual tipped, with resonator. Downpipe is divorced wastegate design (with bung for 02 sensor) which bolts into the midpipe. MIdpipe into muffler slide into each other, which you then secure with a provided clamp.
It's provided excellent deep sound, no raspyness and not excessively loud. To compare to other cars/trucks i've heard...if I'm next to a truck with an exhaust or something like that they almost always drown mine out. If you cruise with it, you can keep it very quiet with light throttle. I tend to do that when cops are around.. At highways speeds..if I have say the sunroof open, or windows down..the wind noise alone can drown it out while holding speed. If you absolutely don't want to go catless..any downpipe will bolt onto it, catted or otherwise. |

If you are looking for a quiet dual tip that doesn't drown, look into the Hayward and Scott Scoobysport axleback. That's the only axleback I've found that is as quiet as the prodrive AB, but comes in dual tip. Also, if what I hear in the soundclips is correct, the exhaust pulses are a little more defined.
The other major manufacterers that offer a dual tip are: Bosal, B&B, Stromung, Borla and Perrin. That list seems kinda short - I must have missed one or two. |

$1100 for exhaust though. Is it a bad idea to maybe only go with a CBE for right now and then when funds permit, buying the two additional pieces to make a full TBE? I'm sure the cost is a little more that way, but it might take me a while to justify spending over $1k on exhaust. Thanks for all the replies!!! |

I have the Bosal dual tip and a Bosal downpipe. The new style with the resonator has a nice sound, is not too loud, fits great and the price is right. (about $700).
I got mine here: http://www.mspt.net/exhaust/bosal_downpipe.html http://www.mspt.net/exhaust/bosal_catback_dual_tip.html Good luck with you car! |
