Question for Viper 5901 owners
So I have the Viper 5901 installed on my 09 WRX and it autostarts fine, but my accessories do turn on, such as my radio, headlights, and heater/AC/fan. Not until I get in the car and put in the key and turn it to on do they come on. Kind of defeats the purpose of an autostart if your heater/AC/fan doesn't turn on when you start it.
So what I'm wondering is there a module required for the 5901 turn them on or has it been installed wrong? Or is this a feature of the WRX itself preventing them from turning on? Just wondering because my 03 WRX and 06 Colorado didn't have this problem with the compustar.

Sounds like one of the accessory wires isn't being powered. There is no necessary module to power these, just proper hookup from the remote start harness.

i see the OP got his question answered so I figure ill thread jack instead of starting another thread with the same title
I'm about to get my Viper 5901 installed next month at bestbuy and i just wanted to ask what all i should expect or purchase or mention to the installer about our cars. I got the right module 556UW or whatever it is, and some other $10 piece they said i'd need, but is there anything else? Is there anything different about installing on an 07 sti that i should mention to the installer? any help/advice would be appreciated. |

Being an installer at bestbuy these should be the only 2 things it needs really. If he is willing to do a remote start in an 07 sti then he should already know everything about the sti that he is going to need to know. if he tells you n e thing that you think is fishy just pm me and i'll tell you what it means or how to tell him he doesnt need it.

There is 2 Accessory wire in the ignition harness
You only need the First Accessory -Blue- at ignition harness There a Accessory 2 -Yellow- Ignition Harness that power radio and such that doesnt requiered for remote start I have the same system in my 08 WRX and i used only the Accs 1 and it work great, my radio doesnt turn on which i prefer. SO go back to your installer, tell him he didnt connect the proper Accessory and they should correct the situation easily |

Its extra wires and an extra relay. You also need to run to tach (at the ecu) and to the parking brake. I charge an extra 30-45 minutes worth of labor and the price of the relay at my shop for any subaru up to 08. With the new chassis, tach and parking brake are both at the bcm, so I only charge for the relay and an extra 15 to hook it up. |

You should be connecting the parking brake anyway. You should be connecting the tach anyway. |

also need to get doorpin input for manual.
It does worth 30min extra labors to do it all on manual car |

Doorpin..
..I guess Ill give you that one since I never install Remote Start only units, always either Alarms or Alarm/Remote Starts, so the door input is something I always connect. Really, there is 2 extra wires I connect in a manual vs an auto, but those 1 wires are in the general vicinity of other wires I have to connect..so it takes me maybe an extra 10 minutes.. |

You shouldn't be connecting the parking brake wire anyway because its not used on an automatic transmission vehicle. It only functions as parking brake in manual mode on a DEI unit, otherwise it goes to ground or a toggle on the older units. You don't need to hook up tach in a car anyway because newer units use an auto-tach algorithm. Door pin is necessary on DEI remote starts as part of the exit procedure. |

Furturthermore, the 5901 is a Alarm/Remote Start system..so why are we even bringing up Remote Start only units? Almost everything that is "optional" in a RS only install for a AT car, is required for the 5901 anyway, regardless of transmission. For a 5901, the only real difference between a MT and AT installation are: NSS, eBrake, clutch, tach. Thats it. Tach I connect anyway. Let me put it this way, here's my reasoning behind saying what I said about the clutch bypass: Most shops ALREADY charge more for a MT installation. The shops in my area that will even do MT, charge you $100 on top of their normal AT price. Now, Ive seen shops that already charge for the MT installation, charge EXTRA for a clutch bypass. My customers have told me that they were quoted the extra $100 for the MT, and then an additional $50 for the "clutch bypass." ..and that was for full on Alarm/Remote Start, where there is minimal "extra" work for the MT. $150, for 3-4 extra wires! Clutch is next to the brake, so youre in that area anyway. eBrake is the only thing you really have to run seperately. NSS and Tach are at the ECU, together. (In a GD Subaru, at least) |

I was just telling you more on RS only unit, that you need the door input on manual only, i know you just told me that you never installed a RS only unit, that why i was telling you
We charge a price for auto + an extra for manual. that it. I think sometime people often refer to clutch bypass for their customer to understand why they are charging you extra time for a manual car. As for charging extra on the manual extra than i totaly agree with you, its dishonest |

Word of note, the new GR chassis impreza/forester (and new legacies i believe too), the ECU shuts down after 10-15 seconds so the nss wire goes dead until the car is started again. As for the clutch bypass, regardless of how an ecu sees it, I do my best to replicate the action of the clutch switch, just for consistency purposes. If another installer looks at the clutch and sees 1 wire, hes gonna go "wtf", but if he sees a relay and two wires, he'll most likely have a good idea of whats going on. I know there isn't a real set "convention" for install, but I've always aimed to make my installs as consistent and clear just in case another installer sees it. |

Have any people had issues with the remote starter shutting off prematurely?
I have noticed that this happens occasionally for reasons I cannot trouble shoot. Ex. 1. the remote start is 'setup' properly. 2. alarm is armed and the car shuts off. 3. remote start the car and it starts and two way pager confirms. 4. then it just shuts off after a few minutes/moments. any thoughts? |

Depending on the unit, either it isnt seeing a high enough voltage difference, the virtual tach algorithm needs to be relearned, or the unit needs to be hooked up to tach/reprogrammed |
