STi Oil Filter, which one to use?
What is the difference between 15208AA060 and 15208AA080?
I think most dealers are using the "060" on the STI and that was what they have sold me. Am I safe using it in place of the "080"?

NO!
Both will fit BUT- the august 2003 TechTIPS from Subaru says; "Be advised that the correct oil filter to use on 2003MY/2004MY turbo model vehicles is P/N 15208AA080. This includes the 2004 WRX STi. Naturally aspirated vehicles should use P/N 15208AA/05208AC060. Using the wrong oil filter on a turbo model may put the filter too close to the turbo down pipe and possibly cause an unnecessary heating of the oil filter." Some people have reported that their STi's shipped with an 060, however. Use with caution. z |

FYI... I used 2, 060 filters(all the dealers around here had) up to 6k miles and had no problems. Now I am using Amsoil oil and filter. |

But hotter oil means less viscosity, so maybe long term = more engine wear? Like I said, this if from the August '03 subaru TechBulletin, and they're saying "ALL TURBO MODELS" (including wrx and STi, Forrester). They must have felt the need to instruct all of their technicians that they should be using 080 filters and not 060 filters on all turbo models. Who knows? Maybe they've "discovered" something after warrantying a few motors. |

If it was so important why did it take so long for the info to come out? I already had 1 oil change done where the dealer told me the 060 was the one to use. Then when it was time for my second one this big debate was just starting. The dealer still told me the 060 was the one. Should I have waited 5k miles before I had my first oil change? I sent SOA an email about what correct filter to use, it took them a couple weeks to come up with a definite answer. Then I asked if I would have a problem since I have been using the 060 and they said no.
