Please don't compare the 2014 to today's system.

I agree it would be nice to have something like Alexa or GA.

However I am clearly not in the majority of Subaru buyers today. I very much dislike the Forester, Outback and we have to include the awful WRX with the ever increasing usage of body cladding. Now the Ascent was changed to be a big Forester and it looks dumb to me.

Well, September last year.

Only time I've hated a Subaru look was the Bugeye and Casablanca. B9 Tribeca wasn't the greatest; but, I got used to it.

There was no comparison made. I haven't used the new system, nor do I have any intent to.

However, voice activated systems need to be smart AI to be effective. They need to learn new terminology and be able to respond to a wide variety and ever changing number of colloquialisms. An embedded system that has no way of being updated on a regular basis will be outdated. At least it's not the only way to interface with the car, unlike what they did in our 2014.

That old system had to have a "perfect" voice. Accents gave it issues. I get them back in a few times a year cause the owner got a new phone or someone bought a used one. Keeps me up on it's functions.

We gave up. Never connected our phones. It constantly dropped them and then I'd have to break out the manual. Such a terrible idea. Another reason I'm glad we don't have that car any longer...

just got an Ascent as a loaner this week and thought about getting the 2023 model but after reading this thread i'm not so sure i'm sold on it.

i hate subaru's 11 inch info system...its slow, not HD and just sucks over all. I'm also not liking the front end update...trying too much imo and black and chrome does not mix!

guess i'll go with the highlander at this point

Wwhhhaaaa.... black and chrome is the CLASSIC mix. I don't like chrome with any other color. I actually don't mind chrome, but a chrome mustache/mouth guard is just not the way to go.

Does anyone know if Subaru will software update the ‘22 Ascent to include wireless CarPlay? I see the ‘23 will have it. We just got a ‘22 and that’s the only thing I wish we had (first world problems, right?).

No. Wireless CP/AA are not backwards compatible.

One of our customers that came back to see me had a "SuperiorTek" accessory that gave her wireless capability in her Ascent. Worked flawlessly while she was with me. Only $70 she said.

Copy that. Thanks! That’s a bummer.

Crackers will trade in a vehicle for it though, and lose thousands compared to spending $70 aftermarket.

Kinda depends. With the stupid values on used cars, I've seen several "even" trades and one got a refund check on a 2 year old car with 15K miles. Car was an equal trim; but, with more features. Just crazy.

I'm leaning towards an Outback when I get one early next year; but, if I end up with a Forester, I'd be perfectly happy with that aftermarket option she had(I don't expect wireless CP yet).

Yeah; but, screw wireless......I want the other features. I have absolutely ZERO need for an Ascent; but, this '23 had me tossing the idea in the pot.

The only benefit I can see getting out of it is the towing.

It's only 5k lbs...I'd call that marginal for track car + trailer. It's OK for a smaller travel trailer.

Could always try one of these, if you're wanting wireless carplay.

Available in six trim levels - Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Onyx Edition Limited, Limited, and Touring - the 2023 Ascent arrives in Subaru retailers this winter.

With a starting price of $33,895, the 2023 Ascent receives a bolder look from a new front fascia incorporating a more prominent grille; redesigned LED headlights; and a more aggressive front bumper cover. The new front bumper cover features new lower-edge air ducts to improve aerodynamic flow under the vehicle. At the back of the vehicle, updated Konoji (C-shaped) taillights further exemplify the SUV's fresh look for 2023.

Priced at $48,195, the top-of-the-line Ascent Touring is equipped with all the features of the Limited and adds an exclusive high gloss black grille; chrome door handles; and satin chrome power-folding exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. The unique interior includes woodgrain-pattern matte finish accent trim and Java Brown perforated leather-trimmed upholstery with tan stitching. Also available on select exterior colors, is Slate Black perforated leather-trimmed upholstery with silver stitching. Three-mode ventilated driver and front passenger seats are also standard on Touring.

Looks great! I'd trade our ***8216;20 for it. And if my dealer keeps sending me these insane trade offers I might! Now that we got a brand new CVT replaced via recall, lol.
