rex on rails - 94 wrx vs 02 wrx - what changes to get the same handling?
so i read the whiteline rex on rails article, and a few more of the articles they have on the site. The whole article is on a 94 wrx, I was wondering what I would have to do to my 02 wrx to make it handle the same. I'm thinking its just a slight difference in sway bar size, but I'd like to make sure before I buy anything.
So they recommend for a 94 wrx 22mm fsb 24mm rsb alk sport rear camber bolts alignment front: toe 0, camber -1 rear: toe out 1 deg, camber -1 for my 02 wrx sedan, I am not sure whether to go with a 20 or 22mm front sway bar, as I will be running the rear at 24mm( in the article, it says the rear can be run at 24 on the 94 wrx as long as there is negative camber too, as it kills the snap oversteer). Aside from that, these are the settings/components I'm going to run, if anyone has read the rex on rails article and knows how it applies to an 02 wrx, I'd like to know what you think. Is there any more I have to do to the car to get it to handle like their project car? thanks in advance.

Yeah I was a bit dissapointed too, I was hoping it was on the newer gen WRX.
Also, would anyone recommend getting "Training the WRX"? I think it's by MRT. |

Email Whiteline. They have pretty good customer service, I had them join a Nissan forum about a year ago to correct some of their "know all" moderators about installling their suspension parts wrong and getting worse handling.

Well... I was about to post this exact same question, but I found it in a search
To correct some of the information, this is an http://www.autospeed.com article with suggestions from Whiteline. I did email both Autospeed and Whiteline, but havn't received replies. The only modifications done to the MY94 WRX are: >Whiteline 22mm non-adjustable Front Sway Bar >Whiteline 22mm adjustable Rear Sway Bar * >Whiteline Anti-lift kit >Tire Pressure: 37psi front, 32psi rear >Wheel Alignment: ** >Rear Camber Kit: *** * Rear Sway Bar initially recommended to be set to Softest (outer most) or Medium (Middle) setting. ** They gave two alignment recommendations, Touring, and Sport. -Touring- Front Toe: Zero Front Camber: -1.0 Rear Toe: 1mm toe-out Rear Camber: -1.0 -Sport- Front Toe: Zero Front Camber: -1.5 Rear Toe: 1 to 2mm toe-out Rear Camber: -1.0 to -1.25 *** After the rear camber kit was installed and the camber adjusted, they set the rear sway bar to the stiffest setting. Articles used for reference: http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1653/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1690/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1689/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1715/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1726/article.html Could these settings translate over to an MY02 WRX? Also, could a 24mm Adjustable Front Sway Bar on the softest setting be equivalent to a 22mm non-adjustable? |

Ok, but say you don't...
Are all these still relevant? |

For this part, I don't believe so. I believe Whiteline sway bars are listed as the lowest possible setting not the highest (or middle). Meaning that if you have a 24mm adjustable with 2 holes it could be a 24 mm or 26 mm bar (or 25 mm if you have 1 bolt in the 24 mm hole & 1 bolt in the 26 mm hole).

So then my 22mm rear sway bar at the hardest setting is equivalent to 24mm?
Back to the original question... What about those alignment specs? I'm leaning toward Touring specs... From the first article: "The alignment specs we chose for the AutoSpeed Rex are the Whiteline Touring. Why? Well, we wanted to maintain reasonably even tyre wear and stability at cruise and, furthermore, we didn't want to install any aftermarket camber kits (not yet, anyhow)." |

Alignment specs are good. -1, IMO, is plenty for a "touring" setting. Many on here say that the car handles like total crap with anything less than -2.5 deg of camber. While I agree, depending on your tires and other suspension setup, -2.5 is nice when cornering hard, I think its unnecessary for most driving conditions. I personally run -1.5 with lots of caster and its more than adequate, judging from my current tire wear, i don't even need this much.

So would even the sport specs still be okay as far as tire wear?

A 24mm Adj-FSB on full soft could be equivalent to a 22mm non-adjustable. It depends on the moment arm length of "full-soft". It'll be close. |

But will they yield the same or as good of results, given that they are for the GC series?
