That's very interesting.. Im still debatin to build this motor or buy a 205 and then build it

Just from my recent experience if you have a 207 and avcs there's no question IMO I actually opted for this motor as opposed to a built 205 which would have came out a 2.1 stroker. (Sti crank) would have been sweet but 400whp is enough for me and at half the cost this motor can handle it stock.

I have a V7 with cams+springs and a million other mods. In the past I have driven some high HP cars, but I must say that 400whp in my car will feel unreal. At this point I'm not sure how much more I want.

Don't push it. Get that dyno tune with a little more boost and timing and THEN make a decision if you want more.

Haha I agree w you! I'm mid 3's right now and just the way that this motor pulls w the extended power and and 8200 redline 400 should be more then enough. Over 400 is general non stop issues too and I drove a buddies Evo 8 a week ago with 440whp and really didn't feel that fast... And he has issues all the time.

Unless you will be running e85 or meth I don't think you will see 400 with a 1.5. Pete at efi logics has the same turbo on a 207 340whp. I will be going with a 3076,dom3 or fp red for around 400whp on efi's dyno if I upgrade

Idk my shop uses a mustang and can get you damn close to 400 my tuner is running the 1.5 on his 207 waiting to see his results and ill let you know. I have heard efi runs very low and that must be a pretty conservative tune as I am around those numbers w a 42 or 43lb turbo that 1.5 is a 49lb per minute it can easily get 380 hp with the right tune... Especially when you can rev so high.

At this point you're just discussing semantics. A 400 WHP turbo that's a 340 WHP turbo an a different dyno is still the same turbo and isn't going to be any faster just because you have a sheet that says 400.

It may be a 49 lb/min wheel, but the whole design of the 1.5XTR is the smaller turbine wheel vs the 2.5XTR... which means the hot-side is going to hold you back from achieving that 49 lb/min from the compressor.

Go to the EFI Logics dyno database. Look up what various turbos are doing in terms of power. See how the 1.5XTR compares. See if that fits with your expectations. A turbo will achieve about the same peak HP on a 257 and 207, just the shape of the curve will be different. The 207 will have less torque and peak power will be higher RPM and broad. 255/257 will have higher torque peak, earlier power peak, faster rise and fall of the power. But peak HP on the two engines will be very close... so just use the dyno database and look at how turbos stack up to other turbos. Contrary to popular belief, there's not a whole lot of magic to turbos.

Good info and you are correct a turbo will only flow what a turbo is going to flow... Doesn't matter what motor it's paired to as you said that just controls where power is made. All dynos read different and every tuner is not the same either. Some mess w things that others don't not saying that is a good thing. I am from CT originally close to efi they are a great shop and great guys who do great work. But there dyno database is not the only one in the world people's dyno sheets are always different w ppl claiming more power etc... This is why I simply use the 400 as a "reference number" I go by what I am looking for and what suits my needs. I was just re stating things I was told that make sense based on other dyno sheets I have seen. Also the 1.5xtr may NOT hit 400... But it is well over a 350whp turbo IMO from what I have seen. I do think it could get one close that's all I was saying. It's not a huge turbo by any means thanks for all the info too!

FYI I dyno'd at 398 hp with the Dom 1.5XTR on e85 on the 207 with a front mount. 22-23 psi or so

We tried pushing it farther, but there wasn't much power gained adding more boost than that. 22-23 psi seems to be the sweet spot for that turbo.

Honesty I wish I'd have bought the 2.5

Where does it spool at? I was thinking 1.5xtr with my built 207 eventually. I am running an hta68 and like the fast spool. Why do you wish you went to the 2.5?

22psi at 3400-3500 with a top mount and around 3800 with front mount.

The 1.5 doesn't hold as much power all the way out to 8k as I would have liked. The larger hotside from the 2.5 would be nice. I was expecting to trade some spool for some top end, but I ended up with the same spool and somewhat more top end. I drive almost exclusively highway miles so I'd gladly trade more spool for more top end. Especially with the 207

What is the torque you got with that tune? When does it start dropping off?

See for me only reason I wanted to stay more hta68 or 1.5 is I do a lot of around town and back roads driving. Not much highway. For you sounds like the 2.5 will work out perfect.

Peak boost was down on the dyno so I think it only made 360 or so but on the road with VD I typically hit around 400hp and 380 tq

Power starts dropping off up around 7500 or so

The 1 207 I saw with a HTA68 I wasn't really impressed with. I forget who actually bought that car (might have been you?) But it didn't make much more than my car with the stock VF22.

EDIT: This one

6 speed, Ver8, HTA 68, Headers, DW750's. Red is with the addition of a KS Tech intake

Lol yes that is mine haha. Car went down with a bad ringland. I am concluding that the poor power on the car had a lot to do with the ringland problem. That is why I want to see how it does fully built. If it still is not that great I was thinking upgrade. My goal is to keep spool as low as I can. That's why I was leaning to a 1.5?

if you're going to build it for more torque, are you stroking it? if you stroke it, you can get more torque from the motor down low, and run a larger turbo for more power up top.

Well it's already being built at EFI. No it's not being stroked. Pistons, rods, bearings, valve springs. And a bunch of upgrades.

My version 7 just put down 300whp 260ftlbs on vf30 pump at EFI, and apparently I did a phenomenal job fabbing my own AVCS harness. Saved $200 too!!! This is such a sweet set up.

^Nice, looking to hit similar numbers with same setup next week.

I'm wiring in my AVCS harness now (thanks whitebugeye!) but I have a wire color discrepancy on the E84 ecu plug. The pin 10/11 by ds1 instructions had the colors swapped from what my car is. Is ds1 correct and my wires were wrong from the factory?

Also, the pin 5 was YG, not GY, pin 4 and engine bay plug were matched to ds1.

Good luck!! And I followed the ds1 diagram, primarily the pin outs. I ignored colors.

Ok, answered my own question on car and colors, my car is right (matches fsm). Do I follow the ds1 instructions for the pin move and ignore the colors in there, or go by color? I don't have a jdm pinout to reference.

I followed the ds1 instructions. The ecu pins are honestly the most difficult part of this, keep your head about you when you start getting frustrated.
