Default what to do when a new m3 is next to you at the light

The answer is look the other way and pretend you dont notice him.

Well here is the story. I am on my way home tonight and a young kid driving a brand new and ( pretty cool I might ad), m3 pulls in behind me, and then around me. I glance over and there he is in this wicked car with his video screen stereo flipped out and everything, and I kind of say to myself man I must be doing something wrong in my life. Dont get me wrong I love my suby.

Well anyway we pull up to the light and I can see him look over at me as if to say lets go, and I save face by jamming to my music and egnoring him, knowing full well he would just smoke me without trying. The kid jumps on it a little, and realizes that I wasnt even going to try and kid myself by racing him and he just eases down on the throttle. When I got home I thought to myself, man I wish I had a turbo with mad boost and tranny to support it, even then I am not sure I could have taken him but it would have been fun to try. (Just curious though if a max boosted impreza turbo could take a stock m3)

what to do when a new M3 is next to you at the light... well that all depends which Scooby you're in and how much you have done to it I'm sure there are a more than a few Scoobies on here that could work even an E46 M3 Especially from a standing start....

Yeah; all those suggestions are good, but wouldnt it be cool to show this young kid who probably never worked a day in his life, some scooby tail lights, and then say to him go home and have mommy and daddy buy you some more go faster stuff.

And not to sound bitter, because trust me if my parrents had the money or if i had the money for that matter I would probably be driving an m3 myself, or at least a full blown scooby that could kick his arse.

You know, I hate to say it, but even if the scooby was just as fast as the m3 Id still want the m3.... Ive always just *loved* the way BMW's look. Awesome cars.
Anyhow, its very possible to make your WRX faster if you want...

Let me just add that the new M3 is not that impressive. I drove a convertable one and I was not impressed. I would even say that a WRX could probably take if off the line and stay ahead for a littel while. The M3's hp is all top end. It really isn't that much faster than the old M3. I don't think that it would take that much to stay ahead of one. And besides, you'd still have $25000 left for other stuff. Don't get me wrong, though. The new M3 is a bad ass car, but I'll take an M5 over it anyday. M5, mmmmmmm. Now that's a fast car.

Roger that, guys. The new M3 leaves me cold. I still prefer the square-shouldered 88-91 version. And I, of course, were BMW to make such things, would prefer an M5 wagon to the M3.

Mmmmm...wagons.

Were you in a WRX, you could have spooled up the ol' tach to about 4K, and launched on his butt. Not that I would ever condone street racing, even to put a video screen-sporting eejit in his place.

My neighbor has a new M3.. Great kid, I'll say this, I get him up till about 60 MPH (with the new converter) after that he just muscles past me.

All things considered though... 60MPH is your average street race...

So, Not bad IMHO

I am a die hard Suby lover and will defend it just about any situation, but I don't know what planet you guys are from. In stock form, the M3 spanks the WRX all over the place. 13.1 in the quarter and I think it was 4.8 0-60 as per Speedvision testing. Imprezer's car barely takes the M3 to school!! Granted, hp per dollar and I will take the WRX cause the M3 is mighty expensive, but we aren't talking price, we are talking about out of the box performance and even if the WRX takes an M3 off the line, that lasts for all of 2.5 seconds maybe. Just wait till Dinan gets their hands on an M3. Then, there is really no competition!! Sorry guys, but wake up!!

You're talking about professional drivers, making those numbers, though. For average people like us, a street race up to 60 mph, the WRX has a chance. Seriously, if you drove an M3 w/ 333hp, and then you drove, say, a Corvette w/ 345 hp, the M3 would not feel like a 300 hp car. Its got no bottom end torque, and the peak number is not much more than the old car. I agree that when Dinan gets their hands on it, it will be a crazy car. I'd like to see them stuff a supercharger under that hood. Has anyone seen the intake on that thing? It huge!

You can have all the horsepower in the world, but if you can't drive then it goes to waste. Plus what's to say that kid wouldn't get over anxious with the throttle and just sent those tires up in a cloud of smoke. Would have been a good spanking if you ask me.

I have always been a wagon fan (since the old AMG Hammer days) but didn't get one until my WRX

I'd have to say that an E39 540i sport wagon with 6spd... that would be as close to perfect as it gets.... no M5 wagon?

That's okay, take a trip to Dinan and throw the supercharger on the 540i wagon... serious M5 killer then hehehe

I'm a big fan of the M5 myself. Saw one on I-35 the other day and had to back off, even if it was only being driven by an old couple. That is a fantastic-looking car, and rather large. It was scary to see some of those with light racks in Europe.

I'm sorry, but the M3 is a silver-spoon car, just like the kid with one at the top of the post. Every M3 I see here in MN is owned by someone under 25 and it's hard to believe they bought it with their own hard-earned cash (unless they deal drugs, which is wholly possible). I've driven a few versions of the M3 and had a lot of fun with it, especially the old one on dirt.

For the cost of an M3 you can buy a P1 and add a few things and be able to run circles around the M3 and still have enough money for any repairs needed. Not to mention working on a Subaru is far easier than working on a Bimmer.

You want a better sleeper than the M5 wagon (if there is such a thing)? The Audi RS4. 0-62 in 4.5 seconds is pretty quick for any car, let alone a wagon. Even more it's AWD! Now that is my favorite car in this world

$ for $ the WRX will spank an M3 in every category exccept amenities. BMW will win that one hands down, but that's their focus. Subaru focus is handeling and I can't see an M3 winning in that category $ for $. That is not to say that an M3 handels bad, just that it cannot match "The Beauty of All Wheel Drive."

subywan:

Facts are facts though:

One 20 year old kid trying to launch an M3... (bog, lag, pickup... go)

One 25 year old neighbor who can SLINGSHOT off the line (ask the illinois folks what my car does IRL....)

I'm at 60MPH in almost 5 even...

... and then you shut down ... like I said bud, in the 1320 he's spank me.. he'd muscle right past me..

But in the short sprints... light to light... I'm not worried.

Jorge- I don't think it's normal for automatic wagon's to turn all 4 tires when launching, what do you think?? hehe

Arguing about something like this is futile as there is always people like Jorge out there who talk about their formula 1 launching and handling characteristics when that is not the norm. We are talking about most avg. people, not the exceptions and Jorge's of the world. No offense Jorge, but 5 flat?? I hope that you aren't bs'ing because that is more suby pride for me!! but most WRX's aren't quite there yet. So, yes "facts are facts!!"
