Default EJ207 Swap: After startup, strange idle

Swapped a JDM STi V7 motor into 1998 2.5RS. The engine starts up fine, but after it runs for about 20 seconds, it begins to idle strangely. It idles at about 1200 RPM and creeps up a little, then seems to cut the fuel. It repeats this over and over.

If you put your finger between the maf and the flex pipe (allowing air to bypass the maf), it seems to idle normally.

I do not have a fuel pump controller (yet), so the fuel pump is wired to be full on.

Here is a video of it running.

Additional details:
Model: GDBA4EH
Engine: EJ207DW3CR

Thanks a lot,
John

Does it seem like the MAF is bad? It was open to the elements for a while.

This is not caused by lack of fuel pump controller. Make sure your MAF is positioned correctly in the tube. The plug should be facing the front of the car.

Try cleaning the IAC. Never seen a bad MAF do that, however im sure its possible.

Thanks a lot for all the replies.

It turned out that either the throttle cable was not adjusted properly, or the throttle body was stuck. For some reason, after we started the car again, the engine started racing to 5,000 rpm, instead of the previous behavior. That's when we looked at the cable and adjusted it. After that, it idled great for about 30-45 minutes.
