There is a study guide out there if you search, I think it was like $40. It's just a word file, so you can probably find it for free somewhere. Also look for Tasting Beer to understand some history and pairing stuff. The written part is about what you'd expect, make sure you know the different style profiles, pairing, serving, and brewing. The tasting portion was pretty straightforward, knowing Diac, Acetaldehyde, Oxidation, and dirty lines I were the off flavors I think. The demonstration was disassembling a draught faucet and explaining how to clean it, which is apparently what it is on 90% of the exams.

If you enjoy a lot of different beers, not just OMG Whalez bro!, you've already got a start on learning the styles. Likewise, if you are a home brewer, I think most of the brewing questions would be pretty easy.

My perception is a little bit skewed as a I do this for a living, but I don't think it was an impossible test.

Cheers ***127867; All,

Had the luck of getting a few Trillium Beers from two buds who were up that way in Mass., recently.

Anyone planning a weekend getaway should make the voyage at least once up to Northern Vermont. Amazing breweries! Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Lost Nation, Switchback, Kingdom Brewing to name a few. Lawson's Sip of Sunshine was good too.

Should be able to find it easily. Usually find myself putting back a few 6pks every year. My mom always gets me it. She remembers that one time 8 years ago when I said I liked it and now picks it up every year. Love free beer.

Hoping to do a golf/beer trip to Vermont in the spring with a few friends. Not terribly far and I've been wanting to get up there for a while

Norexyet,

We stayed at the Phineas Swann in Montgomery Center, a great Bed and Breakfast. On our second visit, they had a brewery transportation package. Also in the cozy house by the fireplace, they have a beer fridge with all the great, hard to find Vermont beers. Also wines, for the non beer drinkers.

Great place for beer drinkers! Get to Alchemist early to load up

Haha. It's always a nice bonus. Something that isn't an ipa or stout for once.

Bolded the parts I would like to echo.
I would echo his comment about oding it for a living, I'm just a beer drinker and enjoy beer. a large part of the higher levels focus on things a beertender owuld actually do in thier day to day lives. and when you get balls deep into it you are oding things brewers really start to understand much more.

FWIW, if this isn't your chosen profession, or you want to be a judge at beer fests in general you can also do the Beer judge certification program:

Thanks...already a CBS (not that it's a huge achievement), just wanted some real world feedback since the next level is significantly more intense. Not interested in doing BJCP. Been homebrewing since 2010 and have a good grasp on the process, probably lacking most on style details and food pairings.

Have a few cans of that from last year still and was surprised to see it on tap by me this past weekend. Was $8/10oz which was pretty reasonable. Heading down to Florida this weekend for Civil Societys 2nd anniversary party. My buddy is a 5 minute walk from them. Pretty solid list of guest taps pouring all day. Will be drunk.

Pressurized growlers. Yay or nay?

Seems like a great concept for a gift this Christmas. Just wondering if anybody has experience with the one from GrowlerWerks?

If you want to pressurize it. Go with this one. I've enjoyed mine so far. And because lifetime warranty, made in USA, and dishwasher safe.

So I took a trip down to South FL

Hit 3 breweries...

Due South
NoBo
Devour

Aside from the well known stuff from Due South (grabbed a bomber of Mariana Trench imperial stout), most of the stuff I had was meh. Not bad, but needs improvement to hang with the stuff being brewed up here in the Carolinas. I tried flights from each place and nothing jumped out as special.

I did get a bottle of Funky Buddha Morning Wood which I can't wait to try- bringing it to a bottle share next week. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/31805/77563/

When people get depressed and poor, booze helps them forget how ****ty life is?

It's not going to go away but I'd guess that it follows the consumer demand. People start to tighten the purse strings and they buy less, but don't stop buying.

Cheap booze never goes out of style. Having said that, I got some damn good deals on wine in the 2008-2010 time frame thanks to the recession.
