The review links in the ad aren't for those speakers. Their speakers cost $2500 a pair.

Ask them for a clear picture of the label on the back, and the name on the front.

Those speakers don't look very high quality from the pics, not that you can tell much from them. I can't see any reason to be interested in them, ad seems a bit sketchy.

250$ will buy you some 25yo made in USA Klipsch KG series off craigslist.

The Sony core series bookshelf speakers and center channel are on slickdeals right now on sale for a total of $145. Add a sub for $100. Then, the Onkyo NR656 for $250. For $500, not too bad??
I don't know anything about the speakers, though I tend to be skeptical of speakers in this price range. I think decent speakers start at about $100 per and decent subs are at least a few hundred.

I don't want to sound like too much of a snob, because I am ultra cheapskate on many things, I just dont see how you can put a decent LF driver and amp into a box and package it for sale @ 100$.

I agree with Isotopes that used is the way to go if possible. I basically only buy used for speakers and amplifiation. These items have a long service life, depreciate quickly, so they are good candidates for used.

everyone seems to love these elacs
https://www.amazon.com/Debut-Bookshe...rds=elac&psc=1

I bet you can buy a decent AVR on CL or Ebay for the 120$ leftover.

I'm a fan of Paradigm Atoms for the price. Smallish bookshelf speakers. Can get 'em for around $100/pair used on ebay. Can also use them as surrounds (have to buy a mount) if/when you upgrade mains.

I've posted about them before, but I'm a big fan of my Pioneer by Andrew Jones budget bookshelf speakers. They also sell a floorstander model, and a 5.1 setup, I believe.

I've had/heard Paradigm Atoms in the past, and still own a pair of mini towers from them; there's really nothing bad to say - great budget speakers.

Interesting, for that price that is not that bad at all.

I found these Martin Logan, they are 2003/04 I think. The guy does not have the bottom screen covers, so not sure how it would pan out with my son shoving a pencil through one of the woofers

I have their 5.1 setup. It's at least as good as the room that it's in, and that room's not apt to change, so there you have it.

Or you could go the diy route. Get some volts or htm 12's.
Erich at Diysg is great to work with and you can even get the crossovers or even the enclosures pre assembled.
(I have six volt 6's for surrounds/heights and they kick butt)

Acoustic Technology is probably a ripoff of Acoustic Research. I inherited my father's AR speakers (AR2 or AR3, can't remember). They were awesome for the time.

Klipsch R-10SWi 10" Wireless Subwoofer
After some initial adjusting and listening, I'm not sure this is enough for my space. This room is 20x16' with a vaulted ceiling. My previous Logitech Z 5500 sub was the same size and did okay with movies and music at my old house (similar but no vaulted ceiling), and I haven't done much music testing here before upgrading here.

With movies, it works well, however, with music it just doesn't seem to have enough volume or presence. Currently my front L&Rs are only 3in drivers from my Quintet. I changed the crossover in my receiver to 100hz but have yet to test music out to see how it seems. That might help, but I don't think I can get it to fix the distortion (a flutter sound from the port) when I up the gain for a little more volume of bass.

C/N how much better will the 12" fill the space?

Anyone have a 2 channel office setup? Looking at putting together a little setup for my office in the new house. Currently I've been looking at powered monitors. Not because I plan on making/mastering music, but mostly because of their small form factor and they usually have a built in amp. So it's simple and clean. Mostly just want to be able to play music from my phone or PC while working. BT connectivity is a plus, but I will most likely use chromecast audio.

Any recommendations?? So far looking at these options -

https://smile.amazon.com/PreSonus-Er...0CKSYBSN5H8DGJ

https://smile.amazon.com/JBL-LSR305-...0CKSYBSN5H8DGJ

Thoughts? Anything else I should look at?

I have the audioengines as well, i like them very much for what they are. However i would be tempted to try the lsrs or bite the bullet and pop for an ebay deal on dynaudio bm or genelecs

Otherwise a classic system from craigslist finds is fun for office and bedrooms. My office system consists of various items between 20 and 40 years old.

I need a new BD player but then I saw the X box s 500 on sale for 159 @ Amazon.

I am unfamiliar with the X box or the Sony Play station. Have not used either one.

It seems they would both be great for streaming Netflix and also as storage to record my CD collection in a high quality format.

Is that correct?? The Sony is about 100- more than the x box but has a larger storage drive. Is it worth it?

You might note that the Xbox One S is also an Ultra HD BluRay player, and the PS4 is not. Might be something to consider if you own, or may in the future, own a 4k display. Also, the Xbox is a Universal Windows Platform device, which could potentially lead to a more robust suite of media apps over the PlayStation. The stock PS4 is a slightly more powerful and capable gaming platform than the XBS. Both support external storage via USB. I wouldn't let storage capacity be a deciding factor one way or the other. Between the two, the Xbox is the only one you can use a Harmony remote to power the console on, if you use one (PS4 only allows powering on by the controller or console).

Hey - thx. Makes more sense to get the x box than another Blu Ray player - right.

I have a very nice A/V system and a quality set-up like the X box would probably make it shine.
