Amazon isn't always cheaper than Target, Wal-Mart or Costco (especially when they run specials), but no tax, free two-day shipping and the amount of time and money saved on not having to run around town...priceless.

Also...be sure to download their shopping app. You can scan a UPC or take a pic and it will tell you what Amazon's price is on it. Makes it simple if you are out and about to be sure you're getting a good price (and then its easy to order from Amazon via One-Click, if you're set up for it).

even with weather delays? The only time they've missed, it was shipping delays due to weather (i.e. out of their control).

I'm inclined to agree with you.

But I would say Bit torrent has been the pinnacle. You can get music, movies, portn, software and books for FREE. No 2 day shipping, no $80 entree fee. Free. Now.

Tell me about it. I ordered $200 worth of stuff from Tower Hobbies last Monday and I only got it yesterday. $9.99 UPS Ground FTL.

I agree it's great. I just leech off my friend's account as I don't buy as much stuff. I am a terrible person.

Uhh, Bit torrent is not new in that regard, just a different method of doing it. Piracy has been a part of the net since its inception.

prime is great, but I did get burned on an overnight shipping request from an item sold by Amazon.com. When I placed the order, it said it would arrive on Dec 23rd, but then was pushed back to 2 days after christmas.

Otherwise, its been great, and free since I went to school last spring.

I think Amazon is becoming the Wal-Mart of the internets.

Yes, but bit torrent has made it super easy and super fast to do. That's why it is the pinnacle. You can download a large movie in an hour without the use of newsgroups or using some slow crap like DC or single peer connection service.

This. When I can order stuff online, and have it show up no questions asked within two days, and not have to drive all over gods creation HOPING that someone has what I want, that's a win.

Another win is when they do things like send movies so you get them ON release day. Another win is what happened to me this week. Ordered some fender covers for my truck for when I work on it. Ordered them thursday morning, with 2 day amazon prime shipping. Said I should get it Saturday. So I figure it would be sent fedex. Got my notification that it shipped out last night, via UPS, NEXT DAY. so I will have it today, no extra charge.

I thought about music and movie download but it fails to provide anything of material value so to speak. Prime has revolutionized shopping where before the standard 4-5....6-7 shipping was such a deterrent. Having something....ANYTHING materially waiting at your door tomorrow for $4 is greater than any free book, movie, or song.

Actually, with the right sites and right software, newsgroups are far more easier than torrents. Allegedly you could go to an indexing site from, say, from your smart phone even and bookmark whatever you want. Your software at home automagically downloads whatever you bookmarked. It looks for any pieces that were missing and repairs the files if needed. Then it uncompresses what it downloaded and deletes the original .rar file or whatever.

My fiance almost left me over Amazon Prime. At one point we were getting 2-3 boxes at our door daily. I would only order simple things such as books, toys for our kid, or essentials that could be had for cheaper than local stores. The UPS driver began to hate us as we ordered larger and larger items.
Want to shock yourself? Look at the "your orders" tab and review your orders from the last year. Over $5k? ok I need to stop...

It got to the point where I would think about what I had to go shopping for over the next few days, and just hop on Prime and get everything delivered the next day. More and more items are starting to feature next day delivery for free. Many items even arrive before I leave for the office in the morning.

What's the problem? If you were buying items you normally would buy, but getting them cheaper with free shipping and no tax (maybe), I fail to see the issue.

I've been using it for 3 years. I think I have been to a mall twice since I signed up for it. Most of my family has amazon wishlists so getting people presents for xmas and bdays is super easy now and low stress because I always wait to till the last minute

No one mentioned Prime Instant Videos? Has every season of Star Trek: TNG, Voyager, Enterprise and DS9 streaming free on Prime (amongst others).

I have an Amazon warehouse about 15-20 miles up the road from me. 75% of the time, even before I had prime, I was getting things in 1-2 days always.

I still have my free membership. I'm going to renew with the paid one and it will include it. But with Netflix what's the point? If there lineup was as good as Netflix, sure.

I'm still waiting for Redbox to start offer streaming.

My ideal (ok not ideal but decent enough to pay for):

- $7.99 for instant streaming of TV and most decent movies (ala Netflix but with more blockbuster movies)
- $0.99 streaming movie rentals through the same service

That would rock.
