Amazing that SSD's are reaching 50 cents per gig.

So I have a weird issue with Windows. I've been doing system images with the "Windows 7 backup" of Windows 8, I had 200GB+ of incremental backups. I updated my computer to 8.1 which removed the Windows 7 version of system imaging but has a standard "system image" now. I created a new image which seems to have overwritten the old "Windows 7 backup" history, fine, but Windows is still showing the drive space as occupied. I have no hidden files, WinDirStat shows 61.4GB used while Windows shows 248GB used. Running the optimization and will try a defrag on it, not sure what else to do.

The issue is that you have too much lens flare on your file allocation tables.

Got a few parts in for my htpc build;
Asus Z77A mobo
i5 3570k
Samsung evo 250gb (OS drive)
SeaSonic M12II 520w

Just need ram (8gb any recommendations for this board?), a hard drive (3tb), gpu (I think I'm set on a gtx 760), a case, and cpu cooler.

For the OS, I still can't decide between 8.1 or 7. I have 7 on my other gaming pc, it's quick, stable, no issues with games, but I keep reading 8 is even faster still. Are there issues with games on 8? I plan on gaming quite a bit with this machine since it's essentially going to be my "next gen" gaming box / PC.

I've gone to 8.1 on my desktop and really have no complaints at all.

The only downside of 8.1 I've found is that I have to go to a 3rd party imaging software for backups since they crippled the one in 8 (from 7).

So I finished my new PC build almost two months ago, sans video card. Was waiting for prices to come back down as I wanted to get a nicer one, preferably AMD.

My friend convinced me everyone should spend stupid money on a video card just once in their life(I've never bought top of the line before).

So even though prices dropped, I still went full derp.

MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning

Will hopefully get it up and running later tonight.

Lol I lucked out and got it for a bit less than it's currently going for. I couldn't stomach $700. But I'm running two Dell U2713HM's at 2560x1440 each, so I figured I should get something beefy to power them.

What are you using?

I need to backup my wife's data, ideally to both an internal drive and an external USB drive (have both), and I'd like it to do incrementals overnight.

Acronis True Image 2014. It lets you choose how many incrementals to keep and allows compression, as well as a host of other features (NAS backups, bootable USB drive, etc).

Will I regret being an early adopter? Probably. G-Sync goes in tonight. Hopefully it's as buttery smooth as everyone says it is...

I'm guessing an Asus with the G-sync adapter installed? I feel like I've been waiting forever for them to release G-Sync monitors; I'm thinking the Benq 24" G-Sync.

Post up your impressions.

Have an old e6600 and 8800gtx rig laying around. Scrapping the internals and starting fresh. Ordered an i5 4670k and a Crucial M500 480GB. Probably going to go with a Z87 Asus mobo of some kind.

e6600? I had one of those. First CPU I bought following the Pentium 4. Goddamn I loved that thing.

Ugh I want an ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q... $800 Not liking that its TN vs my present IPS but strobing back light makes for less motion blur vs IPS.

I suppose I'll wait for prices to come down before I go G-Sync.

Yep! I was just a kid at the time and it blew me away how it performed compared to our older Dell and other Pentium based computers. Encoding/ripping videos/music, barely being able to run Crysis at 1920x1080 on extreme settings, etc. Those were the good old days.

I'm thinking I might actually go with a Gigabyte Z87 board. Built a rig a while ago for my good friend and I really liked the ease of the BIOS and some of the features. I'm also reading less horror stories about RMA...

Thoughts?

They cost the same amount Has there been a spike in RAM price? I don't recall DDR3 being expensive, but that Kingston seems like a good value and I've not had issues with their memory in the past. Planning on using my old Thermaltake 750W PSU and only running one 760GTX card.

Yes, DDR-3 RAM prices have gone up recently in the last 3-6 months or so. That RAM looks good, and I would probably consider it if I had planned my most recent build more carefully.

I was in my local Micro Center twice this past weekend. The first time, I was able to resist the upgrade bug, but it bit me the second time! Ended up buying:

Core i7 4770k
Asrock Z87 Extreme 4 motherboard
16 GB Crucial Elite 1866 RAM
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler

My system is much more responsive overall, and I have yet to overclock anything, plus BF4 plays more smoothly than before. A few weeks ago I got an EVGA GTX 760 superclocked. I'm now thinking, since I got the new components, that I should take advantage of their step-up program and upgrade to a GTX 770 superclocked for ~$80. I got a good 5 years or so out of my old setup, so I can't complain too much.

I would get the GSKILL memory: LINKY

I have not used that particular MB before, but I think Giga has cleaned up their bios lately so it should be fine.

That module does not appear on their supported list: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList...-z87x-ud4h.pdf. GSKILL's Trident X line seems to be supported...but I'm not shelling out almost $200 for two DIMMs.

**** it, I hate my old case. A new CM HAF 922 it is for me!
