I love it when bracelets have screws. So much more elegant than pins, and it appeals to the mechanic in me to see the screws

Great post beau!

Flat head screws in a watch bracelet are dumb as fuk, in fact they're dumb period, and the inventor is an *******.

No reason not to use allen screws, at all.

Yeah the screws are interesting. One of them is actually the pin, with a screw head on one side but tapped hollow on the other for the far side tiny screw. They don’t screw into the links themselves.

Loving that orange Samurai.

That's usually how screwed bracelets work, but using flat heads is inviting scratches when you adjust the band or change it. Allen screws are much easier to operate without gouging the links and ruining the screw head itself.

Yeah, but I freaking hate allen head anything with a passion. You never have the right one, you round them out, and they just plain suck. I agree flat head screws should be extinct and never come back. But I hate allen screws. The greatest screws in any bracelet ever made are in the Damasko.

This is bracelet perfection....

How can you hate allen heads, but love torx, which is even harder to find the right key for?

One word my friend. IKEA, and every other cheap as knock off allen screw used in every damn piece of furniture you have to put together. The impossible to identify standard vs metric allens. I just hate allen screws.

Allen/hex fasteners are fine over 1/4" or so. When they get small, the tool wears quickly and rounds out if you use it often. Torx handle much more tq with loading faces closer to 90° to the direction of force. You can usually be off one size and still have no issues.

If you can never find the correct Allen/Torx, that's not the fault of the fastener.

Rolex bracelets use flat heads, and with the right screwdriver, you won't scratch it. I have sized 5 rolex bracelets and never scratched one. Im honestly not that careful either. The Rolex bracelet is perfection, that torx look is too busy.

Any good Cyber Monday watch deals? I was in Vegas over the weekend and went to the Seiko outlet on Friday. What a **** show. Even with their discounts most watches were more expensive than online prices, even the ones in the scratch/dent area.

I’d love to pick up a discounted padi turtle. Haven’t had any real luck finding a deal today though.

Guys, I'm not a frequent visitor to the thread but think you can help. My seiko skx175 is running fast, faster than it was a while ago and I want to get it tuned. Looked at doing it myself but it looks like I'd need some tools that I won't get much use out of.

I'm thinking as long as I'm doing that I could open up to some mods. Do you guys have preferred vendors to do this?

Duarte at New England Watch Works does great work and is fast. Not sure he does regulation of movements though. Do you have any decent watch maker/shop nearby? They should be able to do it. But it may be magnatized if it's running really fast. A shop should be able to demagnatize it for you too, and at least rule out that as the problem.

I tried on a GS Snowflake this afternoon and now I'm trying to figure out what I'd have to sell to buy one.

Was in Scottsdale earlier this week and swung by the Omega boutique since I am turning 40 in a couple months and am pretty sure I want a Speedmaster Pro. Tried it on and loved it.

But god damn the Dark Side of the Moon was beautiful in person.

Which leads me to my next question. Would you guys buy from an authorized dealer, or say from grey market sites like Jomashop and save $2k - $4k?

Option C. Buy pre-owned from a trusted seller. For Omega (and specifically Speedys), check out kringkily https://www.watchrecon.com/?user_nam...ly&last_days=0

Between options a and b, I’d go with an authorized dealer. When investing in a timepiece, don’t cut corners (unless you’re buying used, which has its own pros and cons). It is very nice to have the backing of an ad when needed.

Any of you guys flirt with smart watches?

I've been back and forth between an Apple Watch and a normal watch so many times it's disgusting, but for some reason I always end up back with my blue Pelagos. They have their benefits; like I really liked knowing my HR and steps and stuff, but I feel like I'm not the target demographic.

I think for me, the biggest thing, is that all of the watch faces are just dog ugly, and they don't look that nice. Even the expensive Stainless Steel or Ceramic Apple Watches.

Curious to hear any of your guys stories

I've got a Nike Apple Watch. I wear it more than I thought I would... it's basically replaced my SKX009 Seiko as my daily. But I still wear my Oris whenever I want something nice... smart watches are modern day tool watches in that they're actual tools.

AFAIC, an Apple Watch has basically zero cachet in terms of fashion/status. Then again since I work at Nike and we ditched the Fuel Band in favor of an Apple partnership, like every other person at work has an Apple Watch, so they're just not novel anymore around here.
