Yeah you use your thumb you just can’t do it while having a normal grip on the throttle. You need to stretch to reach it and it makes it hard to hold a steady speed while you do.

But really, as much as I'm a KTM fanboi, freaking 400+lbs?!?! HOW! My bike is like 80lbs lighter than that. Sure the extra rotating mass, and balancers, and electronics... BUT 80!? jesus ktm... you know I like stout women but this is getting excessive.

327 lbs dry vs 373lbs dry, not really 80 lbs but still a significant weight gain. Lets also not forget the 30+hp gain. The weight gain is going to probably come from the extra cylinder, stronger frame, and the host of electronics(which is on par with my bike). It is also on par with other bikes in its class like the fz09 even though it blows it out of the water on features besides hp number, but the fz09 has an extra cylinder and 75 ish cc’s.

If you are talking full face, the answer is - no one knows.

The Snell Foundation Standards M2005 and M2010 were attacked for requiring too stiff a helmet shell.

https://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/27/a...s/27SNELL.html

Quote:
"What should the limit on helmets be?" Mr. Hurt asks, referring the g-force levels. "They should be softer, softer, softer. Because people are wearing these so-called high performance helmets and are getting diffuse brain injuries - well, they're screwed up for life. Taking 300 g's is not a safe thing."

James A. Newman, a former director of the Snell Memorial Foundation, considers the Snell tests obsolete. "If you want to create a realistic helmet standard, you don't go bashing helmets onto hemispherical steel balls. And you certainly don't do it twice," he said.

....In one comprehensive study of real-world impact performance based on research done for Motorcyclist Magazine, presented by Mr. Thom to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, a $79.95 helmet certified to Transportation Department standards performed the best of the 32 tested, withstanding the most violent hits while transmitting as much as 67 g's less impact force to the headform than a $400 Snell-certified helmet.

https://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Mo...stHelmets.html
https://jalopnik.com/5582380/how-the...urnalist-fired

But in real world crash data, there is no evidence that one helmet standard performs better than another. So while Snell helmets cost more than DOT helmets, and there are UK and EU helmet standards, crash data analysis has yet to prove one is better than another: or all us old paranoid guys would buy them. Helmets that have some certification have proven to crash better than those that don't. Given some of the beanies I see with fake DOT stickers, that's not surprising.

One of the reasons the crash data is inconclusive is that most motorcycle accidents are solo, and the operating conditions are not known because the rider is dead.

Snell changed their spec for 2015.

I have heard that helmet companies were looking at moving away from Snell do to the excessive costs of testing (kind of like a lot of companies have done with ISO). Is that still happening?

For some reason I thought the 327 was a wet weight... oops!

but yea, I'll still lust after this bike and I totally want it. That said, I wish they'd make a sport bike variant (but I guess that is really just a new tank and clip-ons.

I'm in love with that bike, granted might be a light under powered for my tastes but i would still own one.

I noticed compared to the photos at the show, that bike has different rotors compared to the bike on their site .

Hopefully they bring out an R version soon to follow .

Just picked up a 2012 Yamaha FZ8. I couldn't pass it up, it was too cheap. 4300 miles. Will post pictures soon, I'm in the process of doing my "new to me" bike maintenance. Anytime I buy a used bike I usually do stuff like: wash it, change the oil, check coolant, flush brakes, change air filter, clean-adjust- and lube chain, and check tire pressures. I just like the peace of mind knowing when all of that stuff was actually last done.
So now in the garage is a 2017 BMW F800GSA, 2001 Suzuki DRZ400S, and now the FZ8.

Well, it's Tuesday. If you didn't watch by now and stay out of motorcycle topics, it's your own fault. MM93 champion, no surprise, but man how close he came to doing exactly what he didn't need to do for no reason other than pride. 8 laps to go, all he needs to do is finish in the points, and he goes and does this:

Yeah, that was a save, not a crash. Video:

And another one:

https://streamable.com/by3qb

Big kudos to Dovi for fighting for the championship until the final race. I never would have predicted that. We'll see how JLo goes next year since he'll have input on the design this time around.

Also, Zarco appreciation. Just missed out on his first win but it will come. Once Rossi retires, he is the guy I will root for and I hope to see him ahead of Vinales on the Yamaha.

So Zarco is being hunted by KTM and it would be interesting to see how he would do on it.

If anyone in the upper Midwest or anywhere for that matter is looking for a great TAT/rally/dual sport ride I'm getting pretty motivated to sell. The Honda is sold and this needs to go before I start the next chapter.

The bike has the best of everything on it with an eye towards light weight. The list of extras is long including an Acerbis 6.3 gallon tank. It's fresh, sorted, and only needs someone to push the start button and go.

$5100 or ?

I keep going back to my local dealer to look at the r nine t racer. My want is strong but it's hard to pull the trigger given that I'd have to trade in my S3.

Exactly. The triple does so many things so well it's hard to give it up. The racer presses so many of my buttons though. I know some good painters and an r90s two tone paint job would be pretty easy to arrange.

I'm kinda worried that the 2018's will have some really great paint options (not that I mind the white) and I won't be able to resist.

My realistic plan is to buy an old SV650S and do a round headlight and bikini faring conversion. Half the performance at one quarter the price!

get one of the round tube frame ones and make a bevel drive duacti ss tribute.

doesn't look like any new paint options for '18. my local dealer has a demo bike that they'll make me a pretty good deal on. i'm scared to ride it because i'll probably love it.
