Back from vegas. 3x was a charm. Tried in on position and just as I was about to give up. LOCK-Unlock. Remote works! Thanks so much for the help

Maybe the Vegas luck I brought back helped? Lol

Thanks again Ben and everyone that helped!

Anything is possible, but it is not easily done with off the shelf products because this all relies on the OEM remote from the Legacy. So there are a few shell options, but they'll all have the same button layout and overall form factor. Most of the ones in that link don't even have key blades and they probably cost several hundred dollars or more.

Right. I wonder if I can find one that's similar enough to work that looks elegant. If not, I'll proceed. The Bentley key has a blade.

Thanks Xluben

One question. After you reprogram it. Does this mean your original remotes don't work anymore?

Your car can hold 4 codes. It just pushes the oldest one out if you add more than that. So you can do up to two of these and still use your factory remotes.

I have handled lots of the OEM keys in fact I am holding a 09 Legacy key right now it has a screw in the back. If you have a snap closure you likely have a key where the EBay seller replaced the shell with a new Chinese made one with a new uncut blade. Subaru does not sell just the shell. This is very common. The replacement shells I used to buy used a screw like the stock one, but there are a bunch of mfrs making them all slightly different. I hope the snap only type is as sturdy if you do end up using it.

The tip for the black back is good, the 10 and 11-up units have a white backing. Of course you have to take the key apart to see it.

Your experience is typical, lots of sellers have no clue, they'll sell the wrong remote units, swap around key shells with the wrong blades etc. Luckily you were able to return your keys and get the right one.
So I have an interesting one then. I have a Legacy key white a white back but the FCC ID is CWTWBU766. Will this not work on my 2003 WRX then?

Correct, white back with that FCC ID is a 2010 Legacy Key, will not work with your WRX.

I recently traded in a 2012 2.0 impreza and picked up a 2013 wrx. I have a spare set of the old Impreza keys, would I be able to get the switchblade and use the impreza key? the FCC ID is CWTWB1U811

thanks in advance

No that's one of the common ones that the eBay sellers like to send (that doesn't work).

Spent $120 on this key in total: here are the results and am super happy. Wish the logo was blue though!

A tiny dab of superglue. I know it's not great with plastic but it's sticking fine. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to pry it off when I need to replace the battery.

Mine didn't stick at first, but then I pushed really hard and held it for a minute, and no we're good to go!
