Default REPORT: Rossignolo buys De Tomaso, new models headed for Geneva in 2011

We're working off a machine-translated web page, so bear with us, but it looks like legendary Seventies marquee De Tomaso is being resurrected once again. This time by a wealthy Italian industrialist named Gian Mario Rossingnolo. Looks like Signor Rossingnolo has already purchased a Pininfarina factory in which to build the new De Tamasos, and tried (unsuccessfully) to rescue Bertone earlier this year.

The big question is what are they going to build. Well, the ambitious-sounding-to-our-ears plan is to build 8,000 aluminum-bodied cars per year. And they are to be prestige cars, to better take advantage of the De Tomaso brand. As for specifics, Rossingnolo is planning on a luxury sedan, a coupe and an SUV. The cars should make an appearance at the Geneva Motor Show the year after next. Here's hoping one named Pantera shows up with Ford's supercharged 5.4-liter V8 mounted behind the driver

LongChamp, Pantera, and might as well snatch up the LaForza SUV. I so happy!
...as long as they don't super modernize the design. Take a note from Superformance.

hahaha, LaForza. I haven't heard that name in a long time.

Awesome to see that someone with the funding cares about DeTomaso. My dad had a Pantera when I was a kid, and it was a hell of a car. I took it down the track to my first 12 second quarter, at age 17, and there was a lot left in the car. It would be cool to see a new Pantera come out. Depending on the price, of course.

I predict it to be a lot like the Ford GT... which was also badass.

Default Trademark Filing More Evidence De Tomaso is Plotting a Return

Quote:
Trademark Filing More Evidence De Tomaso is Plotting a Return

Remember De Tomaso? The Italian carmaker responsible for the Mangusta and Pantera supercars, and even the second-best looking generation of the Maserati Quattroporte? Well, they might be back.

De Tomaso, founded by Argentine Alejandro de Tomaso, started building cars in 1959. They originally built racing cars and prototypes and were even briefly majority-owned by Ford. Their most iconic car is the 1971 Pantera. The wedge-shaped car with a Ford 351 Cleveland V8 that has only recently started to get the attention from collectors that it deserved.

In 2004, the company went into liquidation. It was sold in 2009. The new owner’s plan failed to get funding, and the company was back up for sale by 2012.

Then, in 2015, a bankruptcy court approved a sale to Chinese consortium Ideal Team Ventures, for just €1,050,000. The company said then that it was planning to build cars in China using the name.

Last August, Ideal Team Ventures changed its name to De Tomaso Automobili Limited, registered in the UK. And now they’ve filed for a new trademark that suggests a return to old form. Though hopefully without the financial troubles.

“Modern Day Time Machine” is the slogan they’ve attempted to register, with the filing happening just yesterday. AutoGuide found the application in EUIPO records, and the trademark applies to motor vehicles.

While it’s still pending, in 2016 the company also filed new trademarks for Pantera, Mangusta, and the De Tomaso name and logos. So it sounds like the company is planning a return of something that resembles, or is at least inspired by, it’s products of the past.

The second-best looking Quattroporte, by the way, was the 1979-1990 third-gen car. It was based on the De Tomaso Longchamp’s underpinnings, engineered during De Tomaso’s ownership of Maserati. An angular stunner you’ve likely never heard of before.

Like stated ^^^ New De Tomaso revealed

New De Tomaso P72 revealed as 1960s-inspired supercar

he De Tomaso name has been reborn at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with a new supercar, 60 years after the Italian maker was founded.

It’s called the P72, and rather than paying homage to the Pantera as previously thought, it’s a spiritual revival of the brand’s 1960s P70 prototype racer, built in collaboration with Carroll Shelby.

Revived by Hong Kong-based IdealVenture, the team responsible for the Apollo Intense Emozione, the P72 Is based around that car's underpinnings, including a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis that is built to LMP (Le Mans Prototype) race regulations.

The exterior design takes much inspiration from 1960s Le Mans racers and De Tomaso’s back catalogue, but with a distinctly modern twist. The interior takes a leaf out of Pagani’s book, with opulent fixtures, the finest materials and an open linkage gearshift.

The firm has yet to reveal what actually powers the P72, but we can see that it is mid-engined. With a manual gearshift and little in the way of advanced tech inside we’re not expecting a cutting-edge hybrid powertrain; it’ll be more likely powered by something V8-shaped.

72 examples of the P72 are set to be produced, at a price of around £662,000 depending on the country. De Tomaso hasn’t detailed how many examples it has already sold.

The story of the De Tomaso brand is far less widely known than brands such as Ferrari. After moving to Italy to become a Formula 1 racing driver, Argentinian-born Alejandro De Tomaso founded his eponymous firm in 1959. The company’s long history includes developing F1 cars for Frank Williams and owning Maserati from 1975 to 1993.

New general manager Ryan Berris claims “Alejandro’s journey was never properly told and we feel his name should be commonly recognised among greats such as Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini”.

The new venture isn’t the first time a De Tomaso revival has been attempted. Back in 2009, a former Fiat executive bought the naming rights and planned to a range of cars – including an SUV, a luxury saloon and a coupé – into production by 2011.

However, by the middle of 2012, the maker was in the process of liquidation, leaving 900 unpaid employees and a former Pininfarina factory to be rescued by a new buyer. Dramatically, the former chairman was then dragged into court and charged with misusing Italian public funds allocated for De Tomaso’s revival.

I kind of like the steam punk vs MACH 5 thing. Add the an air jack system that lifts the car at least two feet off the ground, and saws, two giant Mother of all saws with diamond toothed blades.

I like everything except the gauge bezels. They look like those $2 flashlights they sell by the cash register at Harbor Freight.

Otherwise, semen a flowin.
