Default Vw Golf Alltrack, Sportwagen To Be Replaced By Suvs

Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, SportWagen to Be Replaced by SUVs, ID Family

Alltrack ends production in December

Hot on the heels of announcing the end of production for the iconic Beetle in Puebla, Mexico, Volkswagen has revealed that its two wagons, the Golf Alltrack and Golf SportWagen, will end production once the 2019 model year is done. This marks the end of wagons for Volkswagen in the U.S. after they were a mainstay in the lineup for the last 53 years. Within the next two years, Volkswagen will release three SUVs, including the all-electric ID Crozz that arrives early next year, and the Atlas Cross Sport before the end of 2019.

With SUVs accounting for 50 percent of the Volkswagen brand's lineup in the U.S., the German automaker has shifted its focus to take advantage of the high demand. As a result, the two wagons will be replaced by a small SUV that will slot below the Tiguan. A Volkswagen spokesperson confirmed to MotorTrend last week that the SUV in question is the Chinese-market Tharu, but it will use a different name for the Americas (rumored to be Tarek, at least for Central and South America). In the Chinese market, that model uses a range of turbocharged gas engines, including a 1.4-liter and a 2.0-liter, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

For those looking to snap up one of these wagons before they finish production, Volkswagen will continue making the Golf Alltrack through December of this year. That model comes standard with all-wheel drive, an additional 0.6 inch of ground clearance over the Golf SportWagen, and a 168-hp 1.8-liter turbo-four paired to either a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Golf SportWagen switched to the 147-hp 1.4-liter turbo-four for the 2019 model year and can be had with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

With word the upcoming eighth generation Volkswagen Golf may only be available in GTI and Golf R guise in the U.S., we're not surprised that the two wagon variants got discontinued first. They'll likely return for the next generation in other markets, but in North America, SUVs rule the road and wagons have become a small niche.

This business will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

2 best cars we make to be replaced because everyone wants to be part of the herd. Sheep.

Friend's trophy GF is a vapid countess - remember her a year or so ago saying how she just like wanted a small SUV - her responses to why were all emotion-based. It was amazing, and she's an "educated professional". She wanted something that said Range Rover or Maserati on the back, but I told him to get her the new Acura. She hates me.

I would have told him to get her a damn job and would have got her a Honda Fit. My goodness the image life. Makes me want to puke. So do crossovers. But you know what they do. The herd have to do what the rest of the sheep do. They're that dumb. I piss two of my friend's wives/gf's off all the time because I'm over there and I know hubby pays for everything. One is a trophy, the other works some simpleton shat but drives an expensive car. We'll be there and they start yapping, thinking they are intelligent. I'll look at each and say I know how about a spelling contest and just laugh. PIsses them off everytime. Amazing to me. You get one life and they spend it doing fake/image life. Watching stupid progs, sucked into social media apps. Now I look at the kid who used to light his farts on fire with a bic as a genius in comparison.

^^At least the fart-lighter-guy was honest. She does have a job - probably makes ~250K in a huge bureaucracy, which, for here, means she can't even afford an apt by herself in an area without muggings. But she has 6 wks vacation, and her real job is sucking my buddy's **** so that he pays all the bills. Complains constantly about being soooo tired - just works too much LOL. These countii have no idea how good they have it.

But WHY? It's just a very slightly smaller Tiguan...

Although it looks like it's actually reasonably shorter, at 10 inches shorter:
The Chinese version measures 175.3 inches long, 72.5 inches wide, 64.3 inches tall, and has a 105.5-inch wheelbase. In comparison, the North American Tiguan is 185.1 inches long, 72.4 inches wide, 66.3 inches tall, and has a 109.8-inch wheelbase.

Bring the damn T-roc here, although please change the damn name...

I was just dating one half my age. She got pissed off because I asked her to take me out for once. I mean it was a real problem. What's funny is I was one week post op, not even supposed to be driving or doing much of anything and in a sling/harness. I could hear her pissed-off-ness over the phone and just started laughing. She said "what is so funny" and I said you. I asked you to take me out instead because of the medical situation and you got frustrated. Imagine if we were married and I had surgery or some other S and you acted like this. I said F this i'm out. Will delete your number as soon as I get off the phone. Best of luck out there. I have no patience for drama or them not being equal. I'm all for their equality, been a feminist since I was a child. Shame in this sphere they don't want equality, they want it 1955 style with the money. Such a double standard.

Crossovers, progs, apps, image.

I'm thinking of getting an Alltrack SEL 6MT, need the SEL for the good sport seats, but unfortunately that pushes the price up to $31k+.

That's a tough sell when the equivalent GTI is $29k and GLI is $27k.

Poorman's version.
Buy an AllTrack, lower it, wrap it, and tune it.

Yeah, those tall alltrack Golf wagons are so odd looking in pictures and in person I could careless if they were gone, honestly.

Why buy an Alltrack? Sportwagen 4Motion can be had for cheap with both a manual or DSG and no moonroof. I’ve been on the fence all year about it. I’m liking the Tig so much we may replace my LGTW with something fun and 2 door.

Thanks.
I remember there being a 4-motion wagon, but wasnít sure if it was paired with the standard auto or DSG tranny.

I hate the base seats - I know you can swap seats, but that's a pain, I'd rather get the SEL 6MT which only comes in Alltrack.

I wouldn't say it kills the chance of an R wagon - VW is keeping only the GTI and the R, so there would now be more of a market for an R wagon.

I doubt it but it raises the chance from 1% to maybe 3%.
