No worries it's easy, shouldn't take more than 2.5-3hrs for a first time if you take it slow and easy.

So does anyone have any ideas for a second April meet, now that the weather is getting better? Dates? Places?

The trickiest part about subies that's a bit diff from many other cars is the separation of the trans and motor (specifically the release bearing and lock pin). It'll be covered in the DIY's, simple but important.

so, turns out pretty sure all that was wrong with my car the whole time was a bad idler puller or something.... i pulled one of the covers to the cam gears and found bearing matierial and metal inside the plastic cover... would explain why it wasnt really knocking, but more of a scratchy chatter.... to bad i already had the entire motor pulled and half way disassembled before i decided to take that cover off... could have had it fixed along time ago.... ugh!!! such is life... i may just get some new pulleys and timing belt and slap it back together for the time being. i miss driving it! haha.

i've got most of what i need. just a few more little things, (bearings, oil pan, oil pickup, clutch) and just need funds for machining heads and block.

decided i've waited this long, i can hold out a little longer. really dont wanna have to pull all this crap a second time. lol.

check out what i found when I pulled the timing belt covers!

cute huh!?

Depending on what clearances you are shooting for and what your rods & crank spec out to I had ordered King xpg (new redesign that is supposed to help with subaru's bearing issues) in +.001 for extra oil that are to loose for my stuff after polishing the crank and resizing the rods with the arp bolts.

that's my main thing, i have no clue what clearances to shoot for.

Should i wait til after i send the block, crank and rods to the machine shop to figure that out??? I'm a little clueless when it comes to that stuff.

from what i've read, the tighter the clearances, the better, right?

are you trying to say you arent gonna use the bearings you have? cuz if you arent, and they work for my set up i may take em from you... i was wanting to get kings anyways, that or clevites.

Yes that is what I am saying.

It's a range really, if you are to tight it will cause friction & heat and destroy your bearings and maybe crank/rods. If you are to loose your bearings will not have proper crush and you will spin a bearing. According to most of my reading and talking with Dom at MPS you do not want more than .002 on your rods and not less than around .0015. For the mains, you don't really want much more than .0015 and I am not sure of a minimum. Are you going to have your crank polished/anything done to the big end of the rod or are they just boring the cylinders? If they aren't touching that stuff you can measure now, if they are you should wait till it's done(that was my mistake).

Here.s my question. . . Should I have anything done to the rods and crank? They are both used, but look to be in good shape.

The panda exp. thing is that one of the management classes at isu is raising $ for make a wish foundation as a project and panda has agreed to donate a percentage of all sales tonight from 6-9 so everyone who can should go eat some Panda. My class did it last semester and we raised enough to send a local girl to disney world. I won't be able to go though because I have a test in my finance class at.the same time :-(
