Default Finding a used Impreza (in one year)

I'm going to try saving up in the summer of 2003 and go for a used Impreza. My budget is roughly (estimated) going to be 16000 maximum CDN.

Just wondering what would be available for me in a year, when I look into the car market (rough estimate). Would I only be able to buy the 1995-1998s with the 2.2L or 1.8L? Or do I have a better chance of getting something a bit better?

I just need a general idea.

As much as I'd like a new one, they're pretty expensive after tax.

Hey buddy,
We talked via PM before! Anyways, I believe you might be able to get 1998 Impreza RS w/ 120k (?) for around 15-16$ I believe.

very possible to get a 98 or 99 2.5RS for that price by that time. just watch out for the condition of the car, and whatever you do DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, buy from City Gate Motors. Long story. Just take it from me.

Get a butchered RS, or you can get a nice MY00 TS for that price... or a low km MY99 TS.

And whatever you do, do an ICBC search on the car for a claims history!! It costs $20/search but well worth it in saving yourself from a potential lemon.

There's two in the Buy and Sell that have had huge damage claims on them and both sellers didn't say anything about it. I even told the one seller about the claim and when a friend called him a week later he STILL said it had not been in any accidents!!

Too bad there no way to make a seller accountable for stuff like this!

You can get sued for withholding information when selling a car.

I just found a webpage that calculates price called:
VMR Canada (for 1998 Impreza)

I was looking trhough the prices. Retail goes at 14000 retail on a 1998 RS. An Impreza L goes for around 12000 retail.

According to the webpage, in a private deal, I should be paying less than retail. I estimated that private sale would run somewhere between retail and wholesale price.

Is it possible to say that 12000 is the max market price (not yet adjusted for mileage)? In other words, can I actually use 12,000 as a price to buy a 1998 RS?

Or am I missing something??

Because the 2.5RS Impreza were so limited in production numbers, their value is actually automatically raised at least a couple thousand from their real value. Sellers usually don't have any problems selling them for more because they are so hard to come by.

Does this apply to L's too?
I'm guessing Ls and OBSs would be easier to beat down to the 11,000-12,000 price?

go for an RS or TS. If you get an L, before long you'll want to upgrade and such, just spend the extra 2 grand and go for something that already has the bumper, hoodscoop, and spoiler
Not to mention, engine, suspension, brakes, etc etc.

I wouldn't trust a rebuild, unfortunately.

Hmm... well, I'm probably gonna look into an L, unless I get really lucky and find a good RS or something.

What would be the best way to start modifying an L to get the specs up? Exhaust first?

In my silly little mind, if you want to spend that much just to bring the L up to spec, go for the DSM instead. Modding a L is like modding a civic, and modding the civic will be cheaper. Now if you can get a RS w/in your price range... then... go for it if you really want it.

I'm sure that if I start with the 2.2L engine (w/ 142 hp and 145ish torque), and then do some minor mods it'd run up to what I need.

Not lookin' to turbo it or anything... yet

Make sure you get the difference here, a GC-8 Impreza L is not equal to an GC-8 Impreza TS.

The interior is different with the US L. Here in Canada, the TS has the same interior as the RS.

And yes Sunny, we all know you're silly

HAH! Modding an L is like Modding a civic... hahahahhaha.. a 1.8L FWD L maybe....
