Default 300AWHP...do I need a FMIC now?

My car is making roughly 300AWHP with a VF34 installed. I'm running an STi TMIC and it seems to be a pretty good combo. How much would I gain if I installed a large FMIC like the APS or MRT unit? How much turbo lag would I get from it as well? Do you really need a FMIC with a small turbo like the VF series? Thanks!

How much boost are you running? What fuel? If you had some logs or other info on the state of your tune people could give you more info.

Default stock TMIC is good enough

Spend your money elsewhere.
Cars have run in the high 11's with the stock TMIC, and 400 hp+

I'm running off crappy 91 octane but I do add Toulene to the fuel. I usually cruise around at 15PSI, but when I race I'll turn the boost to about 1.2BAR (17.4PSI). My concern is heat soak with a TMIC.

Default shouldn't be a major problem

I assume given your location, that your talking circuit racing vs drag racing.

I have found that a couple simple steps can greatly reduce that problem.

I put some insulation around my TMIC and it greatly reduced the problem of heat soak. You can get some fiberglass insulation with an aluminized face that is intended to cover cats etc.

I put a drape of that material on the turbo side of the IC and then put some simple foam insulation around its perimeter. This made a big difference in how much heat soak I got (I ran a thermometer on the front of the IC case)

It would still get hot when parked but cooled much quicker when I started moving.

The other thing is just a matter of not going into high boost until you've driven a mile or so after being parked.

The TMIC heats up slowly and will not reach peak temps until the car has been parked hood closed for 30 minutes or so.

If your racing on a track just keep the hood up as long as you can before you run, should not be a big problem.

Accessory fans on the IC also help but are kind of a pain to install, as you need very small SPAL fans or something similar.
