Horrible Gas Mileage/Raw gas smell in cabin
Hey guys,
The past few times i have driven my car i have been noticing that there is a strong smell of raw fuel in the cabin when the blower is on and sitting at the stop light. Here are the things i have been noticing: -Raw fuel smell in cabin when at a stop light (when the blower is on) -Lots of grey smoke at start-up and light smoke when at operating temp. -Terrible gas mileage (170/tank, when i was averaging around 350 before) Mods: -2003 wrx -cobb stage 2 -ebay I/c -Helix catless up -protuned by Tim of PDX tuning So what do you think it is? Maybe a leaky injector? Im trying to get an idea before i start tearing into it. Thanks in advance

Let's start with the obvious: is the light smoke bluish, or whitish? Bluish == burning oil, possibly the piston rings. Whitish == coolant, busted head gasket.

Yeah I have a suggestion, use the search button this is a extremely common problem when it gets cold.
Hell there is even a TSB about it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131755 |

Yeah I had the cabin fuel smell last winter, but it eventually goes away. In my case it only did it on extremely cold days (like < 20 degrees) after the car was sitting for awhile. It has to do with a faulty rubber seal in the fuel line IIRC. It will be fixed for free at your dealership since there was a TSB on it.
As far as the grey smoke, Im not sure about that. I didnt have that issue. It may not be related to the fuel smell issue. So get the line fixed first then see if the smoke goes away. |

You said grey smoke at STARTUP, followed by LIGHT smoke at op temp. Sorry if what I wrote wasn't what you wanted to hear.

thats means your dealership will most likely want you to pay for the 600-700 repair. ive been meaning to send SOA an email about this. I saw the actual line and gas seriously squirts out of it. makes me a little nervous... |
