Default Rev limiter

Was in the traffic when I step on the gas to accelerate, rpm went little more than redline 6100(6k-8k). Engine rpm start to slow down. Is this normal? I didn't even went 7k? Will this mess my engine? Appreciate any input.

Unless you have modified something, the ecu will prevent you from damaging anything. There really isn't a reason to be at that RPM in traffic anyways though.

EBG 18t, everything is stock. W/ CVT transmission you have to rev a little bit higher in order to accelerate quickly. It was an abrupt acceleration not intended but was careless to let the RPM reach 7K and suddenly cut it from getting to 71 K. I taught i damage my engine, but it started to pick up and my Forester was ok again.

You won't hurt anything by hitting the rev limiter every now and then.
