Well it's been an issue since 2012, cause they obviously fixed it with the small mid model engine updates/changes. So I'm not sure worried. I figure April I'll go in.

For those of you who got the letter, was this for a 2012-2014? I have a 2016, and have not received this said letter.

I do know there were a couple of minor changes between the 2012-2014 vs 2015-2016 engines. Maybe this is one of them. Also I know the 2015+ uses a different ECU, one that is similar to the BRZ.

I got the letter for the valve spring recall. I went to the dealer to make an appointment, and the service writer tells me give us a call in two weeks. We have to get the parts in , and our techs have to go to school to learn how to change out the valve springs. I left
thinking maybe I will wait till they get a few jobs under their belts.

I have a 2012 limited impreza and recently heard of this recall. The subaru recall check doesnt show the valve springs. Is it showing for everyone, or not just yet? I havent checked the mail in about a week, so I could have a letter waiting for me.

2012-2013 Impreza 01/17/12 - 06/13/2013

Maybe yours was built 1/16/12 or prior

If the recall isn't showing up under your vin and you still haven't received a letter, then it's very likely yours isn't affected. If you're still concerned and feel there's some kind of mistake you've been left out, I'd suggest you get on the phone with either SOA or NHTSA and refer to the recall number detailing your concern. All that can be found in the 2nd link Blktrax posted.

Just an FYI, if you decide to go ahead with this recall and have an appointment weeks or even months out due to high demand and each dealer only having one specialized tool set to fix the valve springs, you have the right to a loaner car from now until the valve springs are fixed (not just when the car is in for service).

I talked with Subaru of America today and they made it clear they are covering cost of loaner/rental car until the valve springs are replaced.

4/5 dealers I spoke with would not commit to a loaner for that long, but I confirmed with SOA and they will call the dealer on your behalf to get you in a loaner today. Most dealers either had a wait list, a few months out availability, and one even gave me a early 2020 date when they could get the car in for the recall!! Just be polite and forceful with the dealers about your right to a loaner car right now, they are not paying for it, SOA is.

I do have many worries about getting this issue "fixed", if it ain't broke don't fix it...but maybe I'll do it just to save a few months worth of miles/winter salt wear and tear on the old Subie and beat on a loaner car instead, then hope they get some recalls under their belt before.

do you have a link to where SOA has to provide a loaner until your car can get fixed?

No I don't have a link, this was all over the phone, but there is a sentence in the recall letter under "Important Precautions" that started this conversation with SOA: "For your convenience, your retailer will provide you a loaner or rental vehicle at no cost until your car has been repaired".

I talked with SOA about the different response I was getting from the dealers and that's when the rep told me that I can get a loaner right now (my service is scheduled for mid-March). Just to clarify with them, I also told them my car is not experiencing any problems or issues right now but I was uncomfortable driving it for another 6 weeks as it could fail at any time and do further damage to the engine not to mention stall out somewhere on the road.

Also note, the phone number provided in the recall letter for questions: 1-844-373-6614 is a recall phone service not SOA that could answer my loaner question, you need to call SOA to get real reps: 1-800-782-2783 then prompt #6, then prompt #3. I opened up a case number with the SOA rep due to the odd dealer responses and that's when they offered to contact the dealers to explain a loaner is paid for by SOA and I can get it right now while waiting for the repair.

Default 2012 Impreza thread

Welp, was just in an accident this morning on the way to work. Some guy was pulling out of a gas station in the middle of town and didnít look my direction and I slammed straight into the front left of his pickup.

Not sure what the damage is, airbags went off. No pics as of yet, wasnít in right frame of mind. Hood looked pretty bad, was probably going 25 or so.

Sigh. Now I have to go to the police station later to pickup the report and then deal with insurance.

That sucks, probably totaled if the bags went off.

Howíd the car hold up in the accident?

I worry about getting my car totaled as it took me a while to find a rust free example.

Would take a while to find another one.

Didn't seem to hold up great. Radiator was pushed back, close to the engine. Was probably going 25mph and the truck was coming out perpendicular, so I smashed into his front left. Airbag deployed. To me, looks totaled.

I'll see what the insurance says, but say its totaled, what's a good replacement? Mines a 2012 with 108k miles on it, worth between $6-8k? Can't really afford to spend much more than its worth on a replacement
