Default Is my alternator dead or is it something else?

The car was running fine last night. This morning I go to start it up and my gas meter dropped from 1/2 tank to E, with the light coming on. I could hear the car crank but not turn over. All the accessories work, radio, fan, lights, etc but the car wont start. I just filled up on Friday so Im positive I still have gas in the tank. Is it my alternator or something else?

get a few gallons of gas, someone could have popped your drain plug and stolen the fuel. start cheap 1st.

edit: also check for fuel pressure by taking off the fuel line at the filter, and see what you get for fuel out of it. if your alternator was dead, the car would still start/run on battery power.

Changed the alternator and still had the same problem. I accidently left the key in the on position. Then later on I tried to start it up, and it did. I guess it was the alternator after all. The battery died and the new alternator was able to charge it.

i had something like that happen. car wouldnt start but would crank radio ect worked. it ended up being a bolt on the starter that felt off so it wasnt getting a good ground and melted some wires in the process. replace the bolt and wires and the car was fine.
