Well....I don't love the Plasti-Dip look on the outer chrome ring. Ended up painting it with Matte black paint and don't love that either. Painted the back of the emblem (blue part) black and love that.

Is there any way to remove the black enamel paint to restore the chrome finish on the ring?

It probably looks near identical to mine...

But unfortunately i think you will have to order a new badge like i am doing. You can't take off the enamel paint.
Lol, why didn't you just see my pic and decide whether or not you'd like that color scheme?

I kept the rear (hatch) emblem ring as chrome. Painted the background black. That one looks great.

As for the front, I'm going to throw some clear coat on the ring so that its shiny finish matches the surrounding shiny plastic piece of the front grill. Then, I think it will look good with the painted ring.

I'll be doing this on my 05 shortly. White/red combo of some sort.

Cancel your order if its not too late. I just used some Kleen-Strip environmentally-friendly paint thinner that I got from HD a while ago and it took off the black enamel without impacting the "chrome" surface. Took about 10 minutes. Looks brand new

Pull the bumper off to get to the back of the grill. Its 6 phillips head plastic screws, 12 plastic push clips.

Just for the emblem? I didn't think you had to mess with the bumper. Just pry the emblems carefully

That also works but then you risk cracking it. Only takes 6 or less minutes to pull the bumper. That way you can push on the pins from the back to get it off.

Yea better play it safe and take the bumper off. Plus, it will be a good learning experience
(if you're new to this type of stuff, that is)

I agree with taking the bumper then grill off. It's a ton easier to get the emblem off that way and will save you time.

I pulled of my emblem without removing the bumper. 2011 wrx. Although it was more pry than pull. The double sided tape they use is very secure and covers the entire back of the emblem so it holds on very well. You also cannot really get fishing line behind it because of the indent in the emblem and the two pegs that stick out the back. See pics in my prior post. I used a flathead screwdriver and putty knife to gradually work it off. You do run the risk of scraping the chrome ring or surrounding paint if you try it this way so use some sort of padding to protect. I'm pretty sure with warm weather and practice anybody could do this in one minute easily and you wouldn't have to worry about all those plastic clips and having an extra pair of hands to help you reinstall your bumper.

Does anyone know where to buy an 03 or 04 emblem that will fit on my 02 front grill?

Default WRB Badge?

This is a photoshop. I haven't done this.. yet.. and it's not my car...

I like the Subaru badge but it's too muted for me. I'll be getting a dark gray metallic wrx hatch and I was thinking (before even finding this wonderful thread) to try to enhance the emblem with a WRB backdrop. This is my hope / expectation.

Do you think this color / saturation is achievable outside the world of photoshop?

I can see it has been a while since anyone posted to this, but what's the best way to get the rear emblem off? Heat and fishing line? Little bit of some solvent? I've got a 2011 2.5i and just got the front off, had to remove bumper. Word to the wise, clean your undercarriage first!!! I paid the price and 2 of the plastic push pieces broke. Regardless it was an experience
