Default tire sidewall cracking due to tire shine?

I went and look at my tires this morning and the sidewalls are cracking all over the place. I got these low mile stockers for winter and the tires have no more than 10,000 miles on it. Maybe its due to the tire shine? I did a search on the subject and didn't find much info on the matter. Maybe its time for me to get some better tires sometime after the summer...

This is a well known problem. Some of the newer products don't make tires crack. When buying a tire shine or cleaner read the label, some now note on the front of the can that they will not make the tire crack.

Any tire shine, even the expensive ones, have a tendency to dry out the rubber, making them more prone to cracking. I've also read how some strip the oils that protect the rubber from UV light (also why the proper way to store tires is in a dark place or in a dark bag) which will accelerate aging.

that must be why degreaser dries them out, because it removes the oils from the rubber. holy hell i think ive got it.

Hmmm, I've used tire shine on all of my cars over the last 10+ years and have never had a problem with tires cracking...

it depends on how often you use it and what tire you're using it on as each manufacturer uses a different formulation on their rubber. If you use it once in a while, I don't think it's that big of a deal. If you wash your car every week and put tire shine on the car every time (or like some people that I know that use it to keep the tires almost constantly shining) , then maybe you'll see the cracking happen.

I don't dress my tires, but I did when I was 19. Rubber conditioner = no issue. Not as cheap as wet tire gloss sparklematic goo, but cheaper than new tires by a long way.

The problem is the petroleum distillates from what I've read on autopia.org a while back. They eat away at the rubber eventually. Armor All is a major one that has this ingredient. Definitely stay away from that crap. It's too shiney anyway...lol

both Griot's garage and Meguiers have tire dressing which do not harm tires
