04 ej257 motor goes kablamo
Ok so i bought an 04 sti thats knocking like the police. Paid 4000$. Many mods and upgrades. The story is dude blew it up and had a new short block put in by subaru and 4 days later its knocking. Local shop tore down for me to reveal spun main ( obviously ) also shavings throughout the whole thing (bottom end, and heads). So i bought a brand new bottom end a good used set of heads an oil pump and a 20g turbo(its what it had). So basically id like a list of other things i may need, things i shouldnt reuse and precautions to take before proceeding. Thanks.

Change the oil cooler. Its not too expensive and is almost impossible to clean out.

I don't think you understand...If you blow 2 motors right after another, you better make sure the tune isn't causing problems.

Tune ASAP if you got a big turbo you got big injectors and Im sure fuel is just washing your cylinders walls down. You'll be burning oil at the least if not have another engine failure

alot of great advice in here.
at the very least, change the oil cooler, and check the calibration with some data logs. |

Ok so i ordered the oil cooler today. I talked to the previous owner. He wasnt much help he purchased the car already modded out and tuned up from florida. When he purchased it, it had meth inject an upgraded turbo and many other things. It came with dyno sheets for 480hp. Idk why but he removed meth inject and swapped out the turbo. So i believe a tune is in order. Any reputable tuners in the upstate ny area or nearby?

New oil pump and pick up while you are at it. Oil cooler, oil pump & pickup are a MUST! Many like to replace the oil pan too because bearing material gets stuck behind all the baffles and you can never get it 100% clean no matter how hard you try. A new pan is only $84 and I wont rebuild a engine without a new one if it had spun bearings. Also, make sure all the oil galley plugs are removed from the block and flushed out in a parts washer. Then flush them again, and again. Same goes for all engine bearing oil supply galleys. They all need to be spotless! If you dont remove the galley plugs and flush them, chances are there is some bearing material sitting in there just waiting to flow back into the system on first start up.

Do you know what injectors are in it?
If not, probably would make sense to send em out for a cleaning and flow testing. Your tuner will probably appreciate that as well. |
