Computer swap help
I just recently bought my first subaru impreza. It is a 02 impreza wagon ts. My question is, I have a 04 sedan impreza RS as a parts car that has a chipped computer. Will the computer from the RS swap into the TS with no problems? I know most of the other parts match up, Just not sure when it comes to computers in cars.

Do you mean reflashed computer? No body makes "chips" for Subarus, that is to say no reputable companies make chips for Subarus. Any chip you buy for these cars will at best do nothing and at worst blow up you motor.
As for the compatibility of the ECUs otherwise, I don't know. |

Well the guy just said chipped. So maybe he meant reflashed. Like I said I don't know much when it comes to the computers in cars. All I know is he said the computer in the sedan was made to increase the cars performance before his friend wrecked it, and gave him the car I know own as a replacment. He didn't want a wagon model I guess.

Well whatever he did to it. Its a better computer then whats in it now. I know the engine is the same in both cars. So I don't see why not. Just god only knows when it comes to car computers.

I was always told that if you swap the ECU it should be the same year. otherwise you have problems

Well idk if its chipped or reflashed. He could have just meant reflashed. All I know is he said the RS out performed the TS and the only difference was the computer.

The only way to know if it will physically interchange is to get a diagram of the ECU connectors, and the Input/Output chart. Check to see if each pin is assigned the same function. Even then, there's no guarantee it will work.
If the "chip" is one of those "Increase Your Power by 50HP for $$69!" chips, I'd stay with your stock ECU. |

I won't know 100% till i pick up the parts car mid january. The front end is all torn up and has to be flat bed home. I was planing on trying it anyways. But I figured I should get some advice on a Subaru forum before in case someone knows to do it or not.
