DIY: Hazard Switch Bulb Replacement
I searched for an hour or so before I decided to just try doing this myself. So I figured I should make a DIY since I wasn't the only one looking.
This was done on my 04wrx. This takes about 10-20 minutes depending on model car building experience. To remove the hazard button, remove the cup holder, the trim piece and then just pull out the vent and unplug it. Go to RadioShack and get this bulb 2pack. Once you get the switch out, pry the switch apart using a small flathead screwdriver. When you pull it apart make sure to not let it pop open shooting the spring out. It comes apart into 3 pieces. Top Middle. bottom. Pull the entire bulb/base off of the top. To remove the bulb from the soft base you will need a pair of tweezers and good lighting. I didn't take pictures on how to remove the bulb so just do the install backwards. Install Put the 2 wires into the 2 holes in the very middle of the base. Then snake them through using the tweezers. step 1. step 2. step 3. Then push the base back on to the top piece of the hazard switch.

When putting the hazard switch back together make sure that the spring and metal pin are in the right place.
Be patient when putting it back together because its kind of awkward. To put the top back in, slide the front tab under the hazard button, and then press down into place. I tried to explain this the best way I could, but if something doesn't make sense, just ask. |

I'm working on it as we speak.
Also, at my local radio shack, these parts now come in little bags as opposed to the little "blister" boxes. |

So here's my quick notes, considering all 6 of my indicator lights were burned out.
A SMALL PAIR OF NEEDLENOSE PLIERS WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND DURING THIS PROJECT. That is all. Thanks a huge amount for this, I was starting to freak out. |

Seems you need to go through all the steps again. It's tricky to reassemble the switch, and one wrong move, or misplaced spring, or bad position of that little white thingie which allowes the push in - push of the switch, and the lights won't work. Take it off, disassemble, reassemble... unless you managed to fry a fuse in the process?

I have an 04 sedan, and I don't ever remember there being a light in the switch. Do all the hazard switches have the socket?

IMHO, they should all have, as one of these "safety" thingies. Not to mention there would appear to be NO logic whatsoever on cutting a 38 cent cost by eliminating light bulbs as of 2004!
Buy bulbs, take switch off, put bulb, and enjoy a soothing red spot on your dashboard ... |

Wow, I just did this last week and a friend just sent me this link. I had to replace the bulb in the rear defrost switch as well. Same procedure, but it's easier as it's only a momentary switch and has less parts inside.
