I think those dealer markups will kill this EV.

That thing having a mustang badge deserves to see someone shot...

Let dealers mark it up 15k just so it dies and I can stop witnessing the desecration of that poor pony badge being stuck on some 4 door zoomer mobile.

The idea itself is cool.. maybe they can make their own Mustang sub-brand under Ford (like Genesis) with different intensions.

It's one thing for sports car enthusiasts to overpay but are the masses really willing to pay admin on an EV SUV that already lists for more than a comparable ICE SUV? While there's always that "I have to be first" person in the crowd I can't imagine many people will be willing to pay over MSRP for one of these. I have to think that wouldn't last long.

Default Ford hopes 'Mustang-inspired' SUV will shock Tesla, electric vehicle world

Saw this near my house the other day. I’m gonna put this guy in the “have to have it first” crowd since he’s even got a Mustang license plate frame. Unless, of course, this is a mule disguised as a Prius.

Disagree. Just cut allocation and future deliveries to that dealership. Either they will learn, or just sell f-150’s and mustangs to stay afloat.

So it's F150's and Mustangs it is. Manufacturers don't care. Honda doesn't care that it's difficult to purchase a CTR for MSRP. Ford didn't care that dealers killed the Focus RS. Ford will sit back and and pat themselves on the back while reading press clippings of early adopters willing to pay above MSRP for their new EV.

But here is the big difference and let me explain probably better than I did prior.

Ford corp (not dealers) need to have volume sales (to an extent an EV can) of the Mach-E or whatever they are calling it, if they want to have a successful run with CUV style EV cars. I do not think Ford really wants dealers marking these cars up like the Focus RS. Sure, maybe the top sport trim they can mark up but the rest of the trims are essentially an EV version of the Ford Edge, which I happen to like.

If dealers slap insane mark up on what essentially is a EV Edge and it blunts sales, its going to make the future of EV harder for Ford. Ford has the ability and right to assign vehicle allocation. I would have a strongly worded email out that "if anything but the top performance trim receives mark ups, you will have allocation cut. This is not a limited run performance spec car, this is meant to be the next generation of vehicles. Marking this vehicle up will only ensure that you, along with the rest of the people at Ford will eventually be out of a job as EV's become the predominant choice."

I think the base price for this EV is like $43k. If dealers are going full tilt and adding $15k to the base model, thats $60k car before EV tax incentives. That's just ****ing ridiculous. I've read that the mark ups are between $5k-$15k. I'd assume $5k is for the base trip and it goes up from there.

Here is my caveat / exception. If the Mach E can sell for the first 6-12 months with the markups and meeting 90%+ of targeted sales goals, I'd support that. Let the early adopters go in and pay out the nose just to have the first opportunity at the car. As we see sales start to decline after the first group buys, the dealers should start reducing mark up or eliminate it.

Again, that's assuming people are just waiting in droves to buy this. If the mark ups create a small buying base, well, thats just bad business.

Personally I think they should get a whole bunch on delivery allocation and have customers bid on them starting at MSRP. Let the customers decide how much mark up they want to pay. Have it be an online dealership website where they can bid on it or do it via an APP. Now that would be a slick idea, IMO.

Here is the other thing to consider though. I think dealers will intentionally mark them up so that people dont buy them with the intent of trying to resell for a profit.

Whoa whoa whoa.

What if they basically brought back the Falcon (Aussie one) and called it the Mustang Saloon?

That’d be full sized. Mustang Saloon has a nice ring to it.

Sounds like a strip club I've frequented frequently.

Focus RS/CTR: Limited production. Limited audience.
MachE: Volume production. Mainstream audience.

Marking up a volume produced item will only kill it or cause enthusiasm to wane much, much faster by "I'll wait" people, who then go and get something else because they waited long enough and the price didn't move.

This is not a high performance vehicle. It's a volume people mover. Marking up is dumb. Hopefully it is contained to just a few dealers. It's like marking up a $40k Kia or Hyundai SUV.
