Question AAAAAHHHH!!!! Putting in Uppipe... Please Help!!!

Ok... So I have a 02 WRX. I have everything off that should... Took off IC... Than the Downpipe... And Manifold from underneath... I tried jacking the engine up after removing the engine mount... Oh, and of course I removed everything from the Uppipe... But I can't get the pipe to come out... It gets caught up on the turbo mount and the flanges on the uppipe won't let me pull it from underneath... I have taken everything apart and only need to get the Uppipe out to put in the new one and then put everything back together... I would hate to keep the old one in, just for the simple fact that everything is already apart... If anyone has any suggestions please help... I'm frustrated outta my mind... I would hate to keep the old one in just simply because i've but all the effort in to this point... Oh and i've considered the option of removing the turbo... And if it comes to that, than I will go through with it...

there should be no need to take the turbo off did you unbolt the motor mounts before you jacked the engine up if you did you should have more then enough clearance to get the up pipe out when you unbolt the motor mount it creates the needed gap between the sub frame to drop the up pipe but if you dont un bolt the motor mount jacking up the engine wont do anything.

I did undo the motor mount... Is there another one that i'm missing...? The one I took out was the single bolt in the middle of the car, right behind the IC... I tried jacking the car up by the oil pan, exactly like the instructions suggested... Is there another spot I should try to jack it up from...?

You know about the 2 mounts underneath the engine, right? That's what people are talking about. The one you undid behind the IC is a pitch mount. What instructions are you following? They should have gone over that...

^^^yeah dude if you look at the passenger side sub frame brace you will see a 17mm I think nut for one of the motor mounts. Remove that and jack up the motor acouple inch's and it should slide right out. Like Mikey said the one you took out is the pitch mount.

Nope... Didn't get the memo on the other two... The instructions I have are really well detailed... Except for that one part of information... So underneath the car there are another 2 bolts, passenger side right...? I'll go have a look... Thanks...

when you jack the motor up, take off the bolt for the mount and loosen the others. THen put a sturdy piece of wood under the oil pan and start cranking slowly

I haven't had a chance to look under the car yet... But where exactly are the mounts located... I'm assuming the the bolts connected to the black metal attached to both sides of the car... I just want to make sure I have the right ones to loosen...

Did you remove the sensor from the uppipe?

I remember mine getting caught up and preventing me from pulling it out. You shouldn't necessarily have to jack the engine up, but it will give you some more clearance. I remember mine required some combination of rotating and pulling

It isn't a bolt that you have to loosen for the motor mount, it is a nut. It will come right out if you get that loose and jack up that side of the engine.

No, I haven't removed the O2 senor yet... I thought about it, but the sensor socket i'm using won't fit around it because of the metal steam from it... I'm going to find the nut to raise the motor up, since now i've found that the only one i removed wasn't enough or even the right one... The other crappy part is getting to the 02 sensor to even remove it while its still in the car... How did you do it...? But thanks for everyone's suggestions... I'll let you know how it turns out...

Remove passenger side engine mount nut
Don't recall if the engine pitch mount had to be undone.. But do it just in case.

But jack up the engine, and with the uppipe completely unbolted...

rotate the uppipe 180, and pull it backwards and down towards the downpipe area.

Make sure you have the EGT and A/F sensor removed as well.

It's the rotation and removal from the rear that is important... If you don't remove the sensors, it wont rotate and come out.

Since I never planned on putting the stocker back, I just cut it with some snips. Sure was easier than removing the sensor!

I fell your pain man, I pulled my up-pipe today cause I had my turbo out. Its an STI U/p and the heatshield was rattling like crazy. Only got half way through pulling the injectors and turbo because it took me like 3 hours to get the uppipe out and cut the stupid heat sheilding off. I hate this piece of the car more than any other I think

you can rent the o2 sensor socket form autozone and i didn't even unbolt the motor mounts on my buddys 05. we place a small piece of wood next to the oil pan directly on the block and lifted it slightly. turned the up pipe and it slide right out of the bottom. But it sure is easier putting everything back than it is take everything apart.
