Get the 06-07, over all they are better cars. But with the 2.0, you save a bit more gas, and from what people say they run smoother and have the potential to rev higher. Personally, I can't say how much smoother they run, but in general lower displacement motors can rev higher.

You will have more torque with the 2.5l block. I made 234whp & 306wtq on a mustang after a stage 2 dyno tune. I also like that the 06-07 have the 4 pot / 2 pot brakes. I have an 07 and I am very happy. Guess you just have to be ok with the pig nose and "ricer" tails. heh!

get the 06, best year for the wrx imo, it has a bigger motor, bigger injectors, aluminum front control arms, 4 pot brakes, and comes with 17 inch wheels

06/07 has the weakest transmission, maybe even weaker than the early 02s. Whoops....nobody seems to know that, just forget I said that.

If your goal is power and modding get a 2.5L. Its like flatcreen TV's get the biggest you can afford.

2.0's spin rod bearings if starved of oil, 2.5's crack ringlands because they are so brittle+any detonation (like from crappy gas). pick your poison haha

2.0 FTW!!!11 haha, yeah 2.5 is probably better, power wise, I wouldn't say its a stronger block by any means though.

any motor would lol

but i know where you're coming from, the damn 2.0's supposedly have crappy oil pan baffles, so when pulling some G's the oil sloshes around, and the pickup up loses contact with the oil

Subaru lowered the final drive ratio for MY 06-07 to take advantage of the higher torque output of the 2.5 and to lower fuel consumption as well. It's that lower final drive ratio that is killing us. But, IMO, it's only an issue for bad drivers going to the drag strip .

Driver's school, unless you've already done that. Power wise, a turbo back exhaust and a tune should bump up the power quite a bit.
