Default 3m carbon fiber wrap

this might be a silly question...but to those who have wrapped there consoles with the 3m cf vinyl wrap.

how do you make this stuff "stay" in place? after spending so much time getting everything perfect, as soon as the heat from the sun hit it, it pulled up all the corners i worked so hard on.

it just didnt make sense to me to use some kind of adhesive spray, seeing that the back of this stuff IS adhesive. am i missing something?

i've actually looked through that thread a million times. just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and did something other than adhesive spray. this is used on the outside of cars and i doubt they used spray to make it stick.

i know how to search, thanks

Hi I used a lighter and burn the edges so it kinda melt abit of the 3m CF sticker to mold onto the trim's curves but be carefully not to over burn it or it will turn black. Or u can use some double sided tapes at the straight edges with curves. Hope this helps

You're using 3M di-noc? You aren't supposed to apply any adhesive to the back of it because it already has it. With Neffy wrap you need to spray adhesive.. All you do with yours is unpeel it from the paper and apply it to the surface. What you do is apply a whole sheet to the console and heat it if you need some flexibility and make it adhere better. When you've covered the face of the console, make sure everything is pressed on well (it should be) and flip it over. Cut whatever holes you need in the console by makinf zigzags along the edges, enough to fold the material over the edges and onto the back of the console. When you're done give the edges on the back and the entire front side a final quick heating and it will be very well done!

Let me know it you have any other questions. You definitely want to fold the edges over onto the back to make a good finish. If you leave any edges on the front it won't look good and can peel. Hair dryer is perfect..

3M sells an adhesive that is meant to be used in conjunction with the vinyl. They recommend it on their site, I bought some. Haven't used it yet, but when I do, I'll let you all know how that goes.

Yeah, it's called "3m edge sealer 3950",

if you were pulling the corner around,
did you get alot of finger grease on the adhesive side
of the vinyl?
Try not to touch the sticky side.

i know how to do it, i did it already. i know it has a sticky side, i said that in my first post it wont stay down though, it keeps coming up when the sun hits it.

phieleven - i barely touched the back, my hands were washed before i touched it as well.

ill try using that sealer crap i guess then. thanks for the help.

IF you want it to stick and be perminent then just use the 3m spray adhesive. That and a normal Heat gun is what i used and it worked great.

I was planning to do this to my dash also... Don't tell me you bought the "carbon fiber" vinyl at autozone as those ones never stick. How much did you left on the edges? When I vinyl things, I leave plenty on the sides to stretch it and all the remaining gets pushed back of the panel.

DI-NOC™ Stretching. DI-NOC™ stretched
during application may later shrink. This decreases
wall adhesion and the graphic may fall off
prematurely. Use primer to minimize shrinkage.
Instruction Bulletin

I have found, the more you stretch vinyl, the less it sticks.
also, too much heat, when stretching, is bad.

Quote:
F. Trim off any excess DI-NOC™ on the rear
surface and apply a tab/strip of DI-NOC™ to
the cut edge (in particular, the corners), to
further stabilize the application and prevent
shrinkage.
hope that helps.
