Yeah the hardest part was the trim around the radio part, as you can see on mine is lifting a little at the tight corners. I am going to buy more though to experiment with other things and re-do that part. This stuff is addicting

I like this. I have a JDM Forester S/tb with the same interior I was thinking of doing this on... Now I think I will But I won't go as far as you did up the ebrake area. Just stop at the shifter surround. Very nice work, looks like a complicated wrap job though hopfully I can pull it off. I'll order extra in case I **** up and if I don't I'll give it to a friend or something.

ok i just attempted my center console in my GR. Have a couple questions... my first time EVER trying wrapping or anything vinyl. Anyway. It was going very well actually around the shifter boot then i started to work my way up to where the tray is. I tried to use a 1'x2' section and there was an inch i was short on each side as the console started to get higher. I tried to apply some heat and stretch it out but just deformed to much and flattened out the pattern a good bit. So do i just need a wider piece? like 2'x2'? Also, when wrapping up on the top of the console where is produces about a 75* angle and comes back down how to do wrap over that without having a bunch of wrinkles? the spot i am talking abour is the top of the console where it meets the dash

To make up for the bend at the top yes, you would need to go wider. 2x2' would be plenty. I'm about to order some 3M 1080 carbon fiber for that section. Did you leave the piece on the car or take it off? Heat gun or hair drier will work for hitting the bends, take your time and slowly work with it heating and smoothing.

Weight reduction, lol.
All the pieces getting painted Everything is pretty much clips and screws which requires a flat head screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, rag (to cover flat head), muscle, patience, and gentleness. Interior door handle trim is a bit tricky. To remove interior door handle trim: First thing, you will need to remove the interior door panel completely. **If you plan to paint the window/lock switch bezel you will unscrew the assembly as oppose to disconnecting the cables, in the video its at 3:04-3:08. Its held by 3 or 4 screws (can't remember)** Second, at this point your panel is removed but still attached via the cables for the locking mechanism. Remove the interior door handle assembly by removing the two screws on the back. This will free up the panel. Your interior door handle will be hanging like so. Third, interior door handle trim is attached with clips, screws, and its plastic welded. I know right Red: Plastic welds Green: Clips, simply just tug on it to release Blue: Screws (I already removed prior to this pic) Remove the screws and then start to carefully pull on the plastic welds one by one (Yes you can remove them with just brute force), do so one by one. Use your other hand to hold the panel steady. Once that is done the interior trim handle will be released and voila! Some premature pictures of the interior, about 70% done. |

Does anyone know exactly what size of vinyl I have to buy to cover the roof on a 2015 STI? I'm picking it up next week from a dealer like 150 miles away and I'm taking it straight over to a place to have it done. I want to order the vinyl now. I also want to cover up all the cheesy looking plastic fake carbon fiber stuff in the interior.

Question about CF wrapping my 2014 CS style front lip: What size CF wrap would be enough to wrap the entire lip? 5' x 1'? Thanks!

I recently saw clear textured carbon wrap. If anyone is looking to find a paint matched carbon, this would be a cool alternative

The 3M carbon fiber DI-NOC thread!
Did this to my interior. While it is not a 3M product, I figured I'd add it to this thread as it is similar (although I think the 3M is a better quality). Couldn't find the blue through them and didn't want to spend too much as I was not sure if I would like it.
Opinions welcome, I'm sure there will be good/bad, haha. It's a blue carbon fiber vinyl wrap done on the pieces you can see. Wanted to break up the grey/black look. Last edited by mixWRX; 04-13-2015 at 07:47 PM. |
