Default Fellow Alaskan needs travel advice!

Hey There -

I'm a transplanted Alaskan (grew up in Anchorage, went to Service HS, worked for KTUU, etc) who is coming back to visit in July (end of the month). I'm bringing my boyfriend, who has never been, and staying with family in the Oceanview area of Anc. So, I'm not quite sure what sort of things are best to show him around. I guess after living there for so long, you see things differently.

Any advice would be great. This is what I have thought of so far:

-Seward and a possible Kenai Fjords boat trip
-Talkeetna and a Denali flightseeing trip with Talkeetna Air Taxi
-Anchorage, Flat Top hike, Coastal trail
-Girdwood and the Double Musky

I'm debating whether Homer is worth the drive (although the drive is gorgeous) if a bear trip to Katmai is just worth the $ or
if we should go halibut/salmon fishing.

Any thoughts? Thanks everyone!
Andrea

Depends on how much time that you have.

26 Glacier Cruises is a great cruise out of Whittier... well worth the $

You can do Halibut fishing tour out of Homer, that way you encorporate the drive in as well

Denali flightseeing is well worth the dollars...

I have a number of hook ups with these organizations and if you would like and can give you some contact details

It sounds like you have some good ideas. Roll with the ones you have and I'm sure he'll have fun.

I gotta give props to Valdez for it's beauty. It's 360 miles from Anchorage, but well worth the drive. There are several different cruise companies to go out and look at Prince William Sound in, and hudreds of different Charter companies as Valdez is Fairbanks' small boat harbor.

I'll be there this whole summer probably. I've been all over this damn state, but i've never seen anything that really came close to Valdez.

Thanks everyone!!

We were considering the trip to Valdez, so maybe I'll make that a priority. I used to know the guys from Saltwater Safari in Seward, so if we go fishing, it'll most likely be there.

I haven't been to Whittier since they put the tunnel in - but I don't remember there being much there except for that apartment building that everyone lives in!

I'm just so excited about having Moose's Tooth pizza and a reindeer dog again - it's been way TOO long!

Also - we'd love to meet up with anyone while we're there. Snow Goose? Darwins? I'll check back in a few months and see who is around!

Thanks again guys!!
