Default New tranny questions...

Okk...seems like my third gear doesnt like being smooth anymore. I am rough on that gear, and I am still learning how to drive a stick the 'right' way (smooth)... In the mean time I am looking at
a) getting a new tranny for $3k @ ( www.autocaresubaru.com )
b) finding a used or wrecked RS and buying the tranny and all the stuff associated with it and having it all cryo treated, etc...
c) buying a new 'subaru' gearbox and having it sent off to be cryo treated and what-not...

What shall I do?

btw: I am not going to be running serious engine mods...Intake, cat-back and underdrive pulley are all the 'speed' mods I plan on having for quite a while, my suspension is next on the list and cosmetic stuff...I autocross too, and I plan on seeing the track QUITE often.

HELP!!,
thanks,
-justin

You don't mention why your trans. is not covered under the Powertrain Warranty, otherwise let Subaru take care of it. As for Cryo-treated gears, there has been alot of discussion here and I believe the common opinion is there is no benefit from it.

I appreciate your honesty, many people have tried to slide it through the dealer and then publicly cried foul when SOA didn't cover it and whined about it here. But if the trans. got loose or noisey from hard driving (not racing) try taking it to the dealer. Once you get it fixed, work on your technique.

These cars weren't meant to drag-raced. Overseas, where drag-racing is uncommon, there is not a problem with the transmissions like we see here. You may find the only recourse to the problem is a Straight-cut, dog-box or a 6-speed. If you can drive a dog-box, you can shift anything without braking it.

Good luck

Well I dont drag race...this car is my daily driver and auto-x car, and soon to be once a month track car. I just dont want to worry about my gears getting demolished...And I am still improving my less than stellar ****ing technique.

Its a thought...that was sorta lingering in the back of my head...Does anyone know a company here in the us or a website in English that sells the sti 6speed tranny?

Would It bolt right up to my 2.5L engine?
