Coolant help needed
So my Resovoire tank on my WRX is getting for coolant. I purchased an antifreeze/coolant combo at the store to fill my car and my fiancees Legacy GT. The coolant that is currently in our cars looks green. The coolant I purchased today is a redish color. To insure I dont do something stupid, will this be fine or shall I take some other steps around this.
Thanks for your help and knowledge Sincerely -Daniel

I think your only supposed to use the green stuff. The Subaru coolant would probably be the best.(make sure you don't get the new blue stuff they have for 08/09)
I'm about to change my coolant because I put some prestone in there and I would rather have subaru coolant. |

If the stuff you bought says "dexcool" on it, do not use it - bring it back!

You stink at reading. Color has ZERO to do with coolant, quit discussing color. If you don't know, drain it all out and replace so you DO KNOW. #2 option is to use a "any make/any model/any fluid coolant" like Peak Global as a band aid fix to top it off for now.

Dexcool + regular coolant has a possibility of sludging up. Haven't seen it personally but there are enough reports of it. The big problem is that if you have a leak already, and use dexcool to top it off, you run the risk of really bad things happening if the dexcool hits hot engine parts.
(go down to the organic acid section for dex cool) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antifreeze |

if it's just a little bit, around 1 cup or so, just use distilled water. if you find yourself having to add some more often, you have a leak somewhere and should replace with 50/50 mix. well, find the leak first, THEN replace with 50/50. If you're willing to go to the dealer and get screwed on labor charges, just buy subaru coolant and don't worry about it.
