"The Civic Si Sedan will also return for a new generation . . ."
Has this been confirmed? I haven't seen anything specific to the next Si. Selfishly speaking, I would prefer it come as a hatchback. |

It is basically a scaled down Accord. Huge improvement on the tail lights and rear end but I'm not a fan at all of the long horizontal hoodline and the inevitable chrome/black bar grill that looks more like it belongs on a truck or SUV. Hopefully they put a bit more attention to the interior as current gen has abysmal materials and one of the worst infotainment systems in the industry.

Doubt that will happen, Honda is illogical like that. They believe buyers will cross shop a Si hatch with the Type R hatch.

If they ever released an AWD Type R or Si, WRX and STI sales would be in trouble.

They took something fun and distinctive and turned it into a boring sedan for old people.

CTR MSRP is already nipping at the heels of the STI price as a FWD car. I would imagine adding all the AWD hardware and tech would price this car into a higher price bracket. Plus all the Honda fanboys seem to be totally fine with paying admin so you would probably be looking at a $55k car or more.

Completely agree.. and most older folks with money will not buy a cheap sedan like that either. Honda needs to keep Civics youthful, not grown up. They already have a boring Accord for older folks on a budget.

The current/outgoing Civic at least has some personality.

I agree, although I did not like the rear of the current sedan at all. The rear on hatch is fine and works. This new gen however is indeed a Jetta/Passat lame duck baby accord. Guess their focus group really liked the designing of the Accord that they decided to go down this route. Rest assured they will sell millions. Let's see now what Honda delivers on the powerplant side. Increase in HP and economy would be nice. A bump in the Si would be good too, say 225-240HP and bigger brakes. |

Si sedan is confirmed, coupe is confirmed gone, and the Si hatch is possible but not confirmed, since Honda has said the hatch is going to be the "sport focus" with the coupe gone.

I've heard nothing but bitching about the rear design of the Civic sedan and hatch. The Type-R is just some bits and bobs added to the hatch, but everyone screams about the fake rear vents (which come directly from the base hatch). Everyone was excited that the coupe's styling was more traditional. Then the new Insight's more staid take on the Civic styling was very well received. I'm not surprised Honda is going after the Accord's success here.. the current Civic is too polarizing.

I think that's a step in the right direction. The current Civic is pretty garish.

I actually think it looks a lot better than the current model.

It's a testament to the brand that Honda was able to sell a lot of the current generation Civic given the heinous styling. It's just not a very good looking car in most trims. This new model doesn't appear to be a thing of beauty but it's much cleaner and will make this generation age very fast when it's introduced.
