Recall O2 sensor before or after MRT exhaust?
I'm getting the MRT full exhaust system from the first GB. I just got a notice for the recall of the front O2 sensor. I read some comments in the Borla header threads about possible fumes from the newly crafted header fouling the O2 sensors.
My question is, should I get the O2 sensor replaced before or after I get the MRT exhaust? The dealership whining about my exhaust is not my concern, but the effect (if any) on "new exhaust" fumes killing the new O2 sensor is. Thanks, Julian

What MY is this recall for?
Get it before the exhaust... No questions ask. |

I have a 2000 RS. It wasn't for all 2000's either, just within a certain production date range. If you're affected you should (should have) received a letter from SOA.

i got one of those notices. i think it was for 2000-2001 imprezas and foresters. i didn't really read the whole thing because my car was already at the dealership. i just asked them to check it out while they have it there. but it is something about a bad first O2 sensor...

I think if you fall into the recall category, you should put on the MRT exhaust with the current O2 sensor, drive for a week then put the old exhaust back on and get your O2 sensor replaced by recall. Then any of the "burn off" crap from the MRT would have fouled up your soon-to-be-replaced O2 sensor.

The O2 sensor thing has been going on since before the 2000 model year. My ex's L went through 2 within 10,000 miles back in early 1999.
Does anyone know offhand just what one of these sensors costs? I have not tried to look it up in the book at the parts store, but a lot of O2 sensors are interchangeable, so much so that you can buy an adapter for Toyotas which allows you to use standard (spark plug-threaded) GM O2 sensors. Before I decide what's "worth" it I'd like to know how much money I'm talking about. |
