Default How do I Clean the Crank Position Sensor?

How do I clean the crank position sensor? Do you just remove the alternator cover, then you're able to access the sensor? Or do you have to remove the sensor? Also, what do I use to clean it?

One 10mm bolt holds it in. Unplug it, take it out, wipe it off, reinstall.

If it's really dirty, figure out WHY (leaky front crank seal or oil pump?).

...and if you're getting copious amounts of metallic bits stuck to your crank sensor, you might want to figure out where they're coming from.

I've never heard of anyone cleaning their crank sensor.

I've seen a crank sensor covered in "crud" that caused misfire issues on a '02 WRX. Cleaning it made the misfire codes go away. The actual source of the problem was a leaky front crank seal.
