Default Google Stadia gaming (skynet has a console competitor?)

Well, kinda.

Quote:
Google has unveiled a new digital gaming platform called Stadia which will stream better-than-console-quality games that have traditionally had to be either downloaded or purchased on disk.

At launch it will work on existing desktops, laptops, TVs and phones, said the firm's Phil Harrison.

Google also revealed a controller.

It looks like a traditional console gamepad but the Stadia version has a button for capturing and sharing gaming directly to YouTube.

It was also announced that id Software's major title Doom Eternal will be one of the first games available.

I really want to like but Google is notorious on vapor wares. I will keep my eye on it. It looks pretty damn good. I didn't see them talking about prices and pings/lags. I didn't see them show any games that are ping intensive FPS.

However, if some makes a really good MMO on it, it'll be pretty cool, to use your phone to crafts items, while you're out and about, then be at home playing.

Yep... Google notoriously has A.D.D. when it comes to developing and supporting stuff.

Yeah it's kinda hard to see them making gaming a big part of their focus/revenue.

Money can only do so much.

It will be interesting to see how/if it rolls out well.

This. I can't wait for Stadia Chat and then Stadia Video.

I suspect this will go the way of Project Ara. It's definitely an interesting concept with potential. Google doesn't have a great track record of sticking with anything in the past decade.

I'm obviously not the target demographic. But "better than console quality" isn't exactly an awe inspiring claim. So you're going to get the games over 30 FPS? Revolutionary. I'm happy to give it a shot for the right price, but I don't get how they cover the cost of maintaining this massive library of streaming games without charging a hefty fee.

This was my first thought. If they can stream this tech to a snapdragon 835 then that new $400 all-in-one Oculus Quest could become a badass Oasis rig

The problem, of course, is latency... latency on a console can cause some lag; latency in VR can cause vomiting

When Google’s new Stadia game-streaming platform launches this November with Pro ($9.99/mo) and Base (free) options, you are going to want to know every single game that is available in order to choose the correct tier. The difference between those means up to 4K streams, better sound, and more free content, but depending on what you are playing, you may not need the best of the best.

At launch, these are the games that Google says will be a part of Stadia:

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Baldur’s Gate 3
Borderlands 3
Darksiders Genesis
Destiny 2
DOOM
DOOM Eternal
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Farming Simulator 19
Final Fantasy XV
Football Manager
Get Packed
GRID
GYLT
Just Dance 2020
Metro Exodus
Mortal Kombat 11
NBA 2K
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid
Rage 2
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Samurai Shodown
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
The Crew 2
The Elder Scrolls Online
Thumper
Tomb Raider Definitive Edition
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
Trials Rising
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
This list is bound to change and grow, so we’ll do our best to keep you updated as we wait for November to hurry up and arrive.

Because it's not the GOAT Xbox 360 controller.

The audience they're aiming for likely already has a console or PC. Forcing them to buy new hardware to play the same games is going to be a tough sell.

In 2020 you won't have to buy hardware, besides maybe the controller. It would be an app on a certified device (ie. not ****ty streaming box).

The controller also connects directly to Google's servers so there is a benefit with latency as opposed to using a different one. I think you might be able to use your own controller (not at launch) as well, just without the latency benefit.

I personally like that they don't have offset thumbsticks. I hate that about xbox controllers. Also, buying a controller is really not a big deal or a tough sell, especially compared to buying an entire console.

offset sticks > symmetrical. I buy everything on my Xbox vs my PS4 or Switch when given the choice, just because I prefer the controller to the DualShock or Switch Pro. Google's controller looks near identical to Nintendo's.

I don't think Stadia is for me.

No need. You can use your own controller. Hell, you can even use a mouse and keyboard on your own PC:

Google has the resources to make this happen. Like it or not, this is where gaming is headed. This is how we will see real time rendered photorealistic graphics, via massive render farms.

I guess it depends (for me at least) on how the licensing works. Amongst other things to be told.

I could see it being a much more viable option for someone newer to gaming as a whole and, not having or wanting to commit a whole lot of coin.

I'm glad I've already got gaming hardware I don't have to worry about becoming vapor, too.

I can see it being great for a couple of reasons. 1) At $9.99 per month, a friend of mine can afford to game that cannot afford a new console and we could game again. 2) Exclusive titles with far better graphics than a console or even single high end computer can compete with.
