It also wasn't our only car, but the R did just fine for 90% of our drives. Fit our decent sized stroller no problem. Kid carrying backpack, etc. |

![]() I am in the same boat, had multiple generations of the GTI and Jetta...I always found the Jetta to be a lot more practical. The hatch in the Golf is comically small without folding down the seats.

If everything has to be everything for everybody, everything will be CUV/SUV/Truck and nothing else will get made. I wish enthusiasts would leave the enthusiast cars to be just that. “Some” utility but for the love of all things Holy don’t try to make it into a do everything vehicle because that compromises it being a drivers car. I mean if being realists you don’t need a WRX for family anything. You can buy an Impreza and accomplish all the same stuff. Save the price delta for a 2nd vehicle, a drivers car like a base 86 or something. A socket wrench with sockets works much better than a crescent wrench. I’m surprised at this point many of the CUV’s don’t come with a mfr optioned trailer to haul everyone’s **** around. ![]() |

![]() without folding the seats, what can you fit in the cargo area of a golf that you can't fit in a wrx trunk?

![]() It is sad when the current Legacy xt is able to launch off the line faster than the wrx SPT. The engine has no torque for launching with an automatic. It clearly says leave the auto and get the manual for better performance. If the torque was the same 277ft as the Legacy xt, the driving difference is two-fold. But then obviously the fuel economy takes the hit.

People keep forgetting these are not 0-60 drag race cars. And no, that's not saying it would beat either of those cars around a track. I'd wager it would beat a LXT you're wanting the power from, however. |

![]() LXT isn't going to be driven the same as a WRX, so the HTCVT in the LXT can handle the torque supplied. The WRX SPT is expected to be driven harder more frequently, so the lower torque is adequate enough to serve its purpose while also protecting the transmission.

But that's not the point. I didn't need it to haul anything with the seats up. It was either the whole family and things for a day trip, or just me and seats down with tons of room. My golf could take the whole family to the grocery store for a full week trip with no issues. Anything more and we have a 3 row SUV. |

It's not the CVT. It's the manual trans that needed a lower torque output. Clutch drop bombs not applicable to the CVT. |

![]() yeah, unfortunately if the cvt kept the 277fts of torque together with the increased power of 271hp, enough launches would cause cvt belt slippage
