Called around here and they want a 2500
Non-refundable deposit. 9 nine people in line already…all wanting the special edition….which looks like the only one to get. They would sell it at msrp but no further details on color or timing. I wasn’t going to put that size of a depot down but I’m very happy to see this car coming soon. I too….like many others are still let down from Subaru skipping a few years for the STi.

Which dealers so I know which ones to avoid? Maybe Mountain States will be OK. Boulder Toyota can suck it.

Non refundable deposits screams “we’re going to rape you out the ass with ADM or take your deposit as free income.”

**** that **** and walk away.

Honestly, go to leasehakr. Find a broker and pay them the couple hundred bucks as they are well networked (and reviewed on there) and will get you exactly what you want. MSRP, trim, color, etc.

I looks remarkably like my 12 wrx hatch. Just with a slightly better interior, better AWD system, and better tech (stock). still will be fun putting cocky GR drivers in there place with my 400whp daily

Honestly a fully loaded Core would be fine. I'm not crazy about the forged carbon fiber roof. I really just want the red accent interior. The Circuit Edition hood, rear wing, and glossy front and rear bumpers can be added later. If I can't get the CE in Heavy Metal then I'm already prepared to wrap the car Blue Flame.

I would like to see the GRC offered in Blue Flame from the Corolla Hatch or the Neptune Blue from the GR86.

I want to love everything about this car, but like the WRX, I can't get over the rear. Just as my own personal preference, I find it so awkward looking, I almost prefer the WRX. Toyobaru wtf.

I honestly think it would have to be CE, or bust. The core just looks off for some reason.

I saw this in person today. It looks GOOD.

Seriously, it is everything the STI should be.

If the non-refundable deposit gets you the car at sticker. That would be worth it IMO. Just make sure you have a good written agreement.

Pre-pandemic I would agree with you, 100%. But I don’t agree in this case.
One, this isn’t a first year car. At least as it pertains to the most important things of the car, the powertrain, and the drivetrain. Both are well known for those of us paying attention to the GRY since years before it even came out. A lot of aftermarket development has occurred as well. Yeah LE or in this case a CE is a suckers price traditionally. Not anymore if you aren’t paying ADM. Bet on a core with 3 packs vs. a CE. Bet on the $ difference. Bet it all.

You’ve had 2 years full of chip shortages. 2 years of supply constraints. 2 years of delays for products. Then pivot to alleviating the constraints. 2 years. And that’s just to get back to capacity production. Great, neat, but that’s 4 years total to normalize. VAG has announced the next GTI and R will be a crossover. The Fed is pushing 49 MPG fleet average, what by 2026? Porsche has announced the next got damn Cayman, will be a hybrid. To me none of these “announcements” are shocking, in the least. The writing has been on the wall.

Start actually thinking for yourself, with your own money. Pre-pandemic rules, and manuals, no longer apply. You’re in a 5 year window to buy X. Motomachi can produce X and Y, at only certain amounts. It’s basic mathematics and economics. Throw the generalizations out the window. Even first year rules, best of luck. You’re at the poker/dice/roulette table now. We are in inflation year by year. Musical chairs, the too conservative, will miss completely out. Maybe you throw your $ in, in the beginning or the middle, but you will not lose. You wait until the end? Well that’s your $ and your life. We’re all gambling at this point. Some of us are playing for keeps only because we are forced to do so.

Now that I’m cooling off a bit, I’m definitely seeing the core as the way to go. Getting a CE simply won’t be possible for most. I love the look of the CE but it’s definitely loud. The seats are the most compelling chunk of it I think, and maybe the price if a fully loaded core ends up pretty close.

But WOW, so many possible combinations of packages for core. Not used to that. For so many people getting the ideal config will be unlikely unless it’s fully loaded (what I’ll guess most will come.) I’m almost relieved there isn’t one color that’s gotta-have, unlike GR86..

Given the insane popularity of Neptune on the 86, yeah I was surprised not to see a color like it. People would be nuts for it. As others mentioned, the way the plant functions, plus considering the crazy package situation it makes total sense that they keep color options down. Fits the character of the car also.

Isn't the Core technically the "launch edition" not the CE? The Core comes out at end of this year, while the CE is delayed until 2023. Or am I misreading?

Circuit Edition is what some would consider a "Launch Edition" as it's only going to be available upon initial release of the new model.

The Core Edition is going to be the basis of which Toyota will determine what sells and how packages work out.

CE comes out second. Any bugs would be on the Core. The CE gets a few months delay in production. So the CE is the safer bet for people worried about buying a first run of a new car.

I was thinking about that, but the Core comes out in October (probably mid-to-late October) and I'm betting the CE will come out Early 2023. They'll pump out a few thousands Cores, then shift to Circuit. I feel like there wouldn't be enough time to course-correct any issues presented by the Cores sold.

I'm hoping most impatient people will just take what they get and accept the Core, while those more patient and with more money will just try for the Circuit. I'm thinking if I miss the boat on both then I'll just get a 2024 Core, fully loaded. That would probably only be a few months more of a wait anyway after the Circuits.

Are there pics of Core vs CE interior? I've only seen one set of interior pics.

I haven't heard good things about Groove, but it's been a while.

I think just in general fredzy is saying the Circuit interior is preferable.

No. Orders haven't opened yet and it's not official that each dealer is only getting one Circuit Edition allocation.

I've been in touch with my local dealer and they have zero information on distribution.

the circuit trim is one year only limited production, so probably. It gets a carbon fiber roof and other weight reduction mods, so its the lighter trim of the GR series corrollas coming at 3240lbs. The base trim is heavier...but less expensive.

eh...this GR won't be any faster than an STI, especially on the street or 1/4 mile. 1. STI engine...open deck. GR engine open deck. 2. STI engine cast hypereutectic aluminum..GR engine cast hypereutectic aluminum. 3. STI engine 2.5 liters 310 horsepower. 290-300ft lbs of torque. GR engine 1.6 liter 300 horsepower, but only 275 ft lbs of torque. Also the turbo and exhaust manifold are cast as one piece in the GR....limiting turbo upgrade options. As we all know the countless STI turbos available are easy removable stock location bolt on upgrades.

Seems like the GR is going to carry a lot of the engine design baggage complaints that some had about the ej257 in addition to it being very small and lower on torque ...most notably no forged pistons and an open deck design. But the GR engine also has another bit of baggage..the cylinder liners are specd' very very thin and the cast pistons fit tight to reduce emissions when cold vs forged..again...the same reason the STI never got forged pistons, that many were disgruntled about in the ej257. Going to a GR doesn't solve any of that. in fact the cylinder liners are so thin the stock dimension pistons are the only pistons that can be used. If a cylinder wears, the entire block has to be replaced $$$$$;..it can't be bored. Any serious power bumps to this already completely maxed out block are going to cause serious stress on the piston to bore tolerance...The ej257 has many piston options available and entire long blocks with the Standard RA pistons are under $3000 factory new. So I find it ironic...no weird...that some are saying the GR is what the STI should have been...when its engine is just meh. I honestly think this GR is too late..should have come here 3 years ago.

For the same reasons the next Gen STI is going electric, the GR will soon as well. This will be a 2 year run...MAYBE 3 and if the GR is still being produced past 2025 it will have electric supplemetation, there will simply be no choice for Toyota. The electric STI will be back 2025/2026ish.

Its a nice car but only advantage over an STI is the weight in performance situations. GD Era STI's will no doubt be able to pull these GR corollas quite handily.

400 crank horsepower in an STI is as easy as an afternoon bolt on session and subsequent ECU flags, and relatively cheap now and plenty reliable and fun. Modding for another 100 crank HP in this already horsepwer fat per cubic Inch 1.6 GR sounds like it would induce meltdown in short order.

Nice fun little car.
that corolla..but the STI is still the mod king here. The STI's will also be impossible to buy cheap this summer. Collector status engaged and taking off...too the MOOON!!!!!!! $$$$$$$

Right, and from the little bit I could see of the core seats in YT videos. Looks a lot like the base vs. Premium GR86 seats. Base are fine, but the pleather/fauxcantata mix on the premium (CE in this case) is just good stuff.
