Post Mk1/original Impreza forums?

Any interest for a Forum (or Forums) dedicated to original Imprezas? Some people are not particularly interested in the new car, and come to this site for discussions regarding their Mk1 cars. Others may love their new car so much, they could care less about the original one. Why are we talking in the same place then?

I personally think it will allow users to filter through less "noise" and avoid confusion between two fairly different cars. At this point, it may not be necessary, but once this board becomes saturated by the newbies, I think their will be a legitimate need. This is nothing new in car clubs. Not all RX-7's are the same, and neither are VW Golfs, to name a couple.

Just some thoughts.

Question

Isn't that what the NA Powertrain vs Turbo Powertrain and WRX Non-technical forums are for???

What do you mean Mark 1 Imprezas? Did Subaru build cars before the WRX? Yeah, I know about those ugly station wagons hippies drive--but they don't count. This is an enthusiasts forum, and if you're an enthusiast, wouldn't you just buy a WRX?

The www.OLDimpreza.com domain is still available!

Personally, I think it would make sense to separate the Turbo forum into a WRX forum (EJ20) and an aftermarket Turbo/FI forum (EJ25/22). The needs and questions are somewhat different (though with overlap, of course).

I agree with the ubove. Us turbo RS owners need a place for discussion, or we are all going to permantly migrate to the vishnuperformance.com TEC forum. At least they don't lock every single post there

I don't see why a turbo RS is so different from a modded WRX...

I do wonder where powertrain discussions go now though that aren't relevant to whether the engine is boosted or not!

In response to John. First off when I refer to a mk1 Impreza, I refer to all Subaru Imprezas form '93-'01 model years. The new WRX is the mk2, or second generation Impreza.

True this is an enthusiasts forum. By definition, you can be enthusiastic (sp?) about anything, including a clunky 'ol Subaru XT, or GL. Enthusiast doesn't imply performance, it implies great interest. If it was all about performance, then there would be no such thing as a Honda enthusiast!

Just go out and buy a WRX eh? Umm well I'm the type of person that prefers to build a fast car, than go out and just buy it. It's something "enthusiasts" do - They work on and tune their cars.

It has something to do with pride and a feeling of personal accomplishment - another discussion altogether. Besides, the new car is too cute/ugly (yes, both). That's why I'm gonna buy an '03 Lancer for my daily driver - again, another discussion altogether.

I just feel there is a need for a place that people with there original Imprezas can discuss their specific car. A place where we (as in mk 1 owners) don't have to read all those "got my car" and "will this work on a 02 WRX" and other new WRX hype. Mk1 and Mk2 are different cars. Kind of like the Datsun 280z and the 280 zx.

We can talk about maintaining unity and the like, but in time the us and them thing WILL happen. You've got new RX-7 guys, you got old ones. You've got new Eclipse guys, you got old ones. You've got air cooled VW guys, you got water cooled ones. I could go on.

There is a samll "crossover" segment in each category, but this is an exception. Like it or not, as time passes there will be new and old Impreza enthusiasts. Might as well embrace it then create an illusion that states otherwise.

Personally i think we should each get are own forum so if i want to talk to Arik i go to the Arik forum and when i need to talk to mattc about the next meet i can go to the mattc forum. i think this will take care of all the confusion i mean nobody would go to the arik forum looking for info frrom mattc...

I have already decided that I am keeping forums as is. No need to discuss it. I am not going to devide the community.

I agree that ALL turbos share a lot of similarities. I've learned a ton from Scoobynet. Maybe it should be:

1) turbo related topics
2) all other drivetrain related topics (which would include non-turbo egine topics, gearboxes, clutches etc) Underneath every turbo is an NA motor!
