I’m happy to say I sat in a Corolla Sport (hatch) today and there’s enough room in the back seat for emergencies. Shopping for a car in Taiwan.

The Corolla is too small for family use but in GR form as second car it’d be ok.

They do have the GR4 here, for $60k. Ouch.

How fricken enormous are your kids?!? I'm 5'9 260lbs and I fit in the back of one pretty comfortably.

My wife and I managed to get a rear facing car seat & rear facing full-back booster to work in her 2007 Yaris back in the day, granted it was behind the passenger seat, but it worked; in her 2017 Corolla iM hatch we have the rear facing full back booster behind the passenger seat and a booster behind the drivers side. Same setup we had in my WRX wagon, and now my IS350. I also test fit this setup in a current gen Corolla Hatch pre-covid when I was kicking around the idea of a temporary econo-car, and it fit fine, so I assume it would work in the GR Corolla as well.

I'm 5'-10", my wife is 5'-5".

I’m 6’2” so when I adjust my seat to be comfortable there’s like 4” legroom behind me. The hatch has only 30” rear legroom, vs 35” for the sedan.

30” is smallest in class by far.

That makes sense, my brother is 6'-4" and it was hilarious to watch him cram into my WRX wagon with the seat all the way back, it's also hilarious to watch him get in & especially out of my IS.

My dad is 6'6". When my brother and I were kids he had a sixth gen civic hatch. You can make most anything work. But I agree rear facing car seats are an impediment these days.

Still I think it's better to say "too small for a rear facing car seat" than "too small for a family." My son is big for his age (probably from his grandpa) and will probably be transitioning to forward facing soon. By then I imagine any car with rear doors will work fine enough.

presuming I can get one, I'm not sure I'll be too worried about interior space.

my buddy has a CT200h, rear legroom is probably similar, he has a full sized rear facing child seat and I have no problems in the passenger seat.

I'm resigned to the very real possibility that I am not going to be able to buy any of the vehicles I am interested in for the next couple of years; partly due to availability, partly due to the inability to test drive one, and partly because one is a GM product and I won't touch the first couple model years of a GM product

Saw a GR4 in person today, it looks amazing with the wide body. Pictures don’t do it justice. GR Corolla will be the same I think.

Or they will make them in painfully limited numbers such that they are selling for more than original MSRP 10 years and many miles later (cries in CTS-V Wagon 6mt).

Can’t believe the GRC gets the seats from the regular Corolla Sport. Lame. Just sat in Corolla Sport recently, they’re comfortable seats but the car deserves something more aggressive.

Lame they are doing the you boob reviewer thing at that track. I guess I'll wait to see what layout they use but if they use the common one, it's literally a keep it in third gear corner the entire lap track. You switch gears on the little straight but the rest of the lap is literally 3rd gear. Did a trackday there in 2018.

Yeah I didn’t realize til I sat in a Corolla Sport a week ago. Maybe they want to keep the price down, and optimal seats will come later.

I mean, it's youtube reviewers, not trained professionals on a closed course. did you expect Road America, Watkins Glen, or COTA?

we'd be watching how good these cars are at sitting in the wall, not 'getting reviewed' by cheap entertainers.

it was said that pricing will be out with the reviews, so that's a thing.

since they said there will be frequently different editions of the car, I'm sure seats is one of the things that will be changed for one of those in the future.

maybe everyone will wait for one with better seats, and Pre will wait for one that has been reviewed at a proper track.

Personally I'm happy with any decision that will keep this car attainable. Spare no expense on the drivetrain, but a hopped up econobox is exactly what I'm expecting.

Seems like maybe they put some extra attention into getting the shift feel nice and crisp, as one would expect for this. That's half the battle.

No, my money was down before the car even press released. My point was a track where you actually have to use more gears. We have a local track that is local to Toyota HQ that they used prior that they could have used for this. And a dozen tracks more suited than this for such a long lead time and build up.

Either way I didn't make a mountain out of it, merely mentioned the ant hill. The constant digs are tiresome at this point and going on months. Please get some psychiatric help.

I'm definitely curious on pricing, but regardless I think I'm out of the game. The GRC doesn't excite me as it did at launch. I'm pretty sure I'll relinquish my allocation if I'm even asked. I'm not making any more effort than I did initially. It'd still be nice to see these on the road, same as Civic Type R and so forth. Always love me some new hotness on the streets.
