WRX vs. Mustang GT Bullitt
Ok I know a lot of you seem annoyed by these, but then nobody forced you to click on them. Anyway I don't know if this has been brought up yet but the GT is almost identically priced to the WRX. Different style car, I know. But 275 hp/315 ft-lb V8 in the RWD Ford, and has all the jazz like in dash CD.
I just thought it's an interesting comparison because it may be the closest competitor on bang for the buck. Of course, Mustangs have had quality problems historically. An all new Mustang is due next year which should be interesting.

These cars are two completely different animals, performance aside. For areas prone to inclement weather the WRX is the clear choice. I remember my brother laughing at me hysterically as I tried to get my 88 GT up a slightly sloped street with a couple of inches of snow. I ended up walking the rest of the way home!
As far as quality the Mustang is probably not up to Subaru's, but they are not bad. Ford has made great strides in the quality of it's cars over the years. My 88 was a great car and I had absolutely no problems with it. As far a performance . . . as long as it's dry the Mustang is a formidable performance car. Gobs of great American torque available immediately and good handling will give lots of cars a spanking. Punk |

i was forced to click on this! AHHH!
I will not flame you being that you are new, and I would like you to join our cult Neways, those cars are 2 different animals. thats like saying... Dog VS Cat? Everyone knows that cats are stupid, so get a dog. Same here, everyone knows that the wrx is AWD, and turbo. Which means this. a: car is quick. and handles amazing b. It will get u to work everyday c. Its built well, and takes a beating d. you can drive it in all types of weather with NO problems. mustang a. Sounds cool..I love v8s b. car is quick, not sure about the handling (I just dont know) C. Its a ford...IE. its american. American cars blow D. you cant have fun in the rain, and you will HATE when it snows. Who wants to be upset when it snows?? Huh?? not me! I like having fun in the snow. I like going out when its Horrible out and being the only one on the road because everyone has flipped their stupid suvs So whats the point of this post. A. I am bored B. WRX kicks ass C. I would like to have a mustang just to put an exhaust on it, and listen to it all day, then do some drag racing and get into my wrx to do some real racing D. Once again, I am bored and trying to avoid work Keith |

I didn't read any of the above posts (especially Keith's, & it's probably wrong anyway ), but I just gotta say that I love those retro rims on the Bullitt Mustang!!!

The bullit is an interesting marketing angle, and it has cool retro seats, but the seats and overall finish in mustangs are really bad. People think impreza's aren't that great, the mustang interior feels like it was put together with melted down tonka trucks!
It's all about what you like, however. I will always believe there will be a place for V8 detroit muscle, but in terms of real world speed and all weather ability vs. hardcore horsepower, I'd take the former. |

dont know abou the new bullitt, but the just a regular GT will out run the WRX in straightline with equal drivers. the new GT's are capable of high 13's with a really good driver. also handling has been significantly improved over last generation. mustangs have been considered mostly for there straighline preformance for a while now (which was actaully quite lacking in the last generation) but the new ones can handle well to, but i highly doubt itll be up to par w/ the new WRX.

The Bullit edition Mustang is a sweet looking car, but though I don't recall exact numbers, I have the vague sense that its production run is considerably smaller than that of the WRX.
Thus, I would expect considerable dealer markup on the Bullit mustang to the degree of putting it several thousand dollars of its MSRP. |

I would love to have the BULLITT Mustang.
I already have a WRX on order. But what is realy great is I am a huge Steve McQueen fan. I have an 86 911 Carrera RS and I already have and renew every year the personalized plate "BULLITT." It is mine |

I think performance wise the Acura Integra Type R is a good contender, it has the true enthusiast in mind, unfortunately the dealers have taken advantage and want an arm and a leg for them, haah.
I know some or most of you are not Honda fans, but i am a Honda fan and if it wasn't for WRX would have bought newer (1998) Type R or a 93+ Mazda Rx7 R1. I know someone who paid way too much for his 2001 Type R, i wont put down the price because I don't want to embarrass him, haha. EJ20WRX |

The mustang is a whole different animal. More stock perfrmance, more potential for paved racing, and classic styling.
The WRX is likely to be more comfortable every day, handle bad weather with less worry, and you can play in the dirt better. |

Yeah I think the bullitt is limited to around 7500. But, supposedly those engine specs will become standard next year anyway, and then the all new Mustang will come. There hasn't been much info about that one, but I guess it will have fully independent suspension, stiffer chassis, new base engine etc. If they keep the price where it is I think that will sell like tasty, cheap hotcakes reportedly sell.

It will definitely sell, especially if the rumors that they're moving the Mustang from the ancient Fox platform to the Lincoln LS/Jag S-type platform hold true.

J Mays for President! Too bad he didn't get a crack at designing the skin on the WRX.

Re: the initial post. The Mustang Bullitt the same price as a WRX? Wow.
In Oz we get some RHD Mustangs every year. Nothing flash, just a V8 version. The local Ford fans love it because it's a newer V8 than the nail you'll find in Tickford Falcons, etc. Problem is, it costs a hundred thousand dollars. And the market demographic is such that the average age of a Mustang buyer and a WRX buyer is, um, about twenty years apart . |

to put the mustang in perspective for you Andy.. its the Holden Commodore of America..
i'm from sydney.. living in Tampa now. and the mustang ecomes in V6 - V8 like the holden.. and theres a lot of em around.. its basically the local home grown car that is the staple diet.. i find similar sorts of knuckle draggers attracted to the mustang that drive the holden back home.. not all.. but some.. i'm sure there are some nice mustang drivers around |

Yup, I got the impression from the info on the launch that Ford was specifically targeting XK8 and Lexus coupe owners - i.e. 50+ owners.
The Holden Commodores, especially the SSs, are driven by young folk as well as old. I don't blame them - gas is cheaper than bottled water down here, and you get a crude but effective chassis and a honking V8. Certainly Ford in Australia (or Tickford, which does the conversion from LHD) isn't targeting WRX owners in particular. Performance car owners - at least according to the pres - are definitely in the "hot four" or V8 camps, and not often in both. "Knuckle-draggers" - I like that . |
