*Dangerous to pedestrians/innocent people
*Illegal to RACE, let alone go over speed limits
*There are LEGAL places to do it.
*Statistics (how many have died, age groups, ect...)
*Gambling involved sometimes.
*Illegal parts on cars (here in cali at least)
*What happens if you get caught

For the EASIEST and most dramatized show, watch the MTV "Real Life: Im a Street Racer" That should give you some ideas.

Ill let you know how it is when I go out with my friend (just watching, not racing).

You know...i have to do a imformative speech in a few weeks....maybe ILL do mine on the same thing...so any more info can help!!!!

Are you for or against it? That might be a good point to start. Then think of the other side of the argument. Personally I am against it, but I think road rage and immature drivers are a lot more dangerous than organized street racing in some secluded area.

just a guess, are you taking public speaking at SJSU?

isnt an informative speech supposed ot be just that: information. no opinion at all should be in it.

yeah...street racing is dangerous and expensive, thats why i rally! ! its fun, but idiots think its cool to cut in front of people and do those things in a Civic hatchback which make it dangerous. Why dont people go to the track?

you could also go into the reasons why people street race, to keep a balanced argument,....like how it's an adreneline rush (both racin & runnin from cops =P), how they feel they need to rebel on society, the need to show off in front of others, having nother better to do late at nite, how it's more convenient to just roll in then goin to the track, bein able to get together with other people with same interests as them....blah blah blah. And then you can go into the things that those people overlook or put aside, like how it can be very deadly and dangerous participating in events like this. Accidents happen a lot.

if you really wanna score some points on your speech:

1. have a kick ass intro, which leads to the body of speech. tell them that the movie F&F , while has some great footage, is not that "clean". heck you may wanna include the footage of the scene in your opening...

2. on the body,, give TONS of personal experience, if you have any. they are a sucker for them. for example, "my friend's cousin's neighbor, who used to babysit the brother of this guy on his soccer team died in an illegal street race..."

3. close it out with a question. that way, they remember it for a while...

oh, for the speech:

1. street racing is illegal.

2. it is ILLEGAL.

3. it is against the law.

anything else?

shat, depending on where you go to school, you could take the class outside and show em what street racing looks like... and depending on the scenario, the good and bad.

1. You roll up with class watching against a Civic riced out POS.
a. the light turns green, you smoke him like a Christmas ham.
b. go back to class group that witnessed it and tell them how dope it was to do that!!!

2. You roll up with class watching against a Z-06.
a. the light turns green, he smokes you like a Christmas ham.
b. go back to class group that witnessed it and tell them how dangerous and stupid that was!!!

If you do the 2nd option, you can use my car and show the class how a 4 banger will piss off that Z06 as you stay on him
Even though you will loose...you WILL piss him off!!!

I kinda skimmed so I don't know if anyone mentioned this (I guess the mention of gambling somewhat suggests it) but in some regions there is a lot of gang activity associated with street racing and I doubt that's a good thing if you don't pay off a bet or the result is contested and both sides think they're right (and they have guns).

remember guys its an informative speech, that means NO OPINION. saying street racing is bad is an opinion. all he can do is present facts such as what its about, wehre its done, what happens if caught, etc.

uh wait a sec...

Street racing being "bad" isn't an opinion, it's a FACT.
That's akin to saying murder is bad... is that then an opinion?

This may be kind of a stretch but in principle it's the same.

how abotu this, youre not supposed to put in any form of judgement. saying somethign is bad would be a judgememnt even if its right (like murder is bad).

i just had this class last semester and my teacher kept stressing that you cant have any form of opinion in the informative speech (and ours was also 7-10min long ).

aw 7-10min? poor you.

my best suggestion for jinkies would be to avoid the details of comparing street racing with movies. simply begin a subtle image/description of a typical night for say an IT professional getting off the job late. the father of two (make-believe) children casually makes his way to his car. meanwhile a group of young adults and adults alike are gathered about a fifth of a mile down the street in this business district. two cars are lined up on the street about 4-5 feet apart. between the cars is a person with his or her hands in the air. the hands drop and the cars take off leaving smoke and rubber as the gathering watches eagerly. back in the parking lot, the tired IT professional sees two headlights a distance away and pulls out slowly out of the company lot. he is sideswiped at 60mph and dies upon impact. this is modern day street racing: illegal, statistically fatal, and growing in popularity.

etc etc.. good luck

Last year, I did a speech on how honda civics suck. I made a powerpoint with video clips etc. You should have a good visual display so that peopel who don't know what ricers are will now know. Also in my town, there is a lot of gang activity around my town, and every street racer is a pothead.
