is $25,000 a lot to u??

well, i am only 18, and want to lease a WRX..(very lovely car).
i think the car will be approx. $25,000 the most out the door. i will down pay approx $3500, and maybe pay approx $350 per month for 36 months....sth like that..and to me, $25,000 is A LOT!! what do u think?

Yes that sounds like a lot of money to me. At age 18 I paid $350 for my first car. Of course that was 27 years ago, but certainly $25K is a lot of money.

If you have $3500 for a down pay, and $350 a month, sounds like you could hang with buying the car.

Oh and yes, that is a lot of money. I work hard for my money (Hehe), I get mad when I loose $1,

I work hard for the coin too, and at least to me, $25,000 is a lot of money. If you can budget for it and it works out for you great!
just don't forget about insurance.

Shure whish I had a WRX when I was 18... Got a '71 Nova with a 250 6cyl, 2spd powerglide (slipping badly), wrecked in the right front and the right rear. Had to rebuild the car from scratch. Even now with a good job 25K is now small investment.

Affordability is a relative issue based on personal earnings.

Whether $2500 or $25,000 if you can afford to pay for it and you are confident you are getting the best value for your hard earned $$$, then go for it.

$25K is a pocketful for just about anyone I'd guess. It's relative, but unless you're really banking, it'll set you back a good bit.

I am very concerned at the prospect of young drivers (17, 18) running around with a new WRX (Or Bullitt Mustang or Z06 or Audi S4 or whatever).

The WRX has incredible acceleration and grip that makes you feel invincible.

Please consider starting with a 2.5 RS or if you do get the WRX, invest in some high performance driving courses.

There were some horrific accidents when the 2.5 RS came out (with young drivers involved) that made the news, and also many in the WRX/22B/P1 overseas.

I am sure you and the other young drivers here are responsible, so I am not trying to imply you are reckless.

It is just there have been so many senseless accidents in my area lately with young people driving that I know another 5 years of driving experience would have prevented.

I agree with Glenn,

I drove like an idiot when I was young. There was a really gnarly accident with an RS about 2 years ago here where some young kid drove like a moron and died.

I've been driving for 15 years now and I know a lot of things about cars, road conditions and traffic that I didn't when I was young.

The WRX is a great car, but very dangerous in the hands of someone who is inexperienced.

Also, what is up with all these 18 year olds that can afford a $25k car? When I was 18 I drove a 1978 Scirocco that I got for $1800. Do you guys have rich parents or what?

This sounds like a thread for buying a motorcycle for the first time. "Go with something smaller, with less power" I say, screw that idea (for the car anyhow). If I"m going to spend 25K, or actually $35CDN I want the best car for the buck. I would never get a lower model down the line. If you can't drive, take a course. But by no means, offset your *****ty driving by getting a *****ty car.

Hey I am not trying to act like a brat but if you guys are 17 and your parents buy you a car they lay down cash? Or do they finance it? I am 15 I will most likely get a WRX when I turn 16, however there will be many restrictions on my driving privilages until I get more experienced. I am not saying I am a better driver than other people my age but I took drivers ed about a month after I turned 15 so I will have about a years worth of driving experience when I get my license. One more question, do you think it is wrong for someone of my age to get a car like this?

I think it's sick that your parents are going to buy you a $25k car on your 16th birthday!?!?! You're never going to really appreciate it!

I started with a P.O.S. 1978 Scirocco and moved up from there. I'm now 31 and I'm buying a WRX because I've come far enough along in my life that I can afford it!

I come from a fairly wealthy family and my parents could have bought me a new car when I was 16 but didn't because they wanted be to be able to value something I worked for.

I found that most people that make a big deal about younger people getting free cars are just jealous.

I think what's more important is that parents teach their kids a good work ethic. A new car isn't going to ruin one's appreciation of fine things all by itself.

When I was 15/16, I wanted a car more than anything. Many of my friends were given BMWs or Camaros by their parents. I didn't care about developing a work ethic, or appreciating the lifetime value of earning the perks of life. I was jealous as hell and I just wanted a car!

It's only in retrospect, looking back on some pretty good years in business, that I realize how important a little deprivation can be. 18 years ago I didn't want to hear it, but the "things" you earn with hard work mean a lot more.

And the trust fund kids I went to prep school with? Most of them are still poking around, trying to "find" themselves and figure out what to do with their lives.

A bit harsh, no Socalb? I guess it would depend on how much shes putting down, $3k vs $25k. And if youre earning money to pay off the rest or your parents are simply transfering money to your account.

No 25K is not a lot (for me), but at age 18 you are either selling crack (to get the money) or you are a spoiled rotten bugger. My first car was a 87 Escort GT, that I shared with my brother and sister.

IHMO that's way too much car for you.

Well I WILL say it... I am jealous. My first car was a 1970 datsun 510 (man now I want that car back... darn you SCC!). I had to bare with the looks of it.

Sure you may think that you appreciate it if your parents buy you a car, but you dont. Why, because you simply cant yet. You have not had to save up for months to afford a down payment, or lower the type of car you want because of the insurance rates eat up your "car" money.

Owning a car is a privaledge, not a right. Graduating is not a good reason to get a new car. I suppose I come from an older background, where you have to earn what you have. It may come from my rather meager background. My family was not rich. So I was VERY jealous of people who's daddy or mommy bought them a new BMW.

Their is nothing more I can say on this, its comes with age, and having to earn everything you own. If you are getting your parents to buy you a car, I am jealous, period. To me their is nothing anybody can do to deserve being bought the car they want.
