Does the WRX use a BV or a DV

Hey everyone,

My previous car was a 1.8T GTI, and it had a Diverter valve (DV) instead of a Blowoff Valve (BV). I was wondering if the WRX has the same type of system.

BOV that vents to where? I thought venting to the atmosphere was illegal now.

It vents back into the intake plumming, after the MAF.

BV and DV are the same exact things...just different names (in Europe, they are usually called DV's). On the WRX and 1.8T, it is vented back to intake.....I don't know of any cars where the valve vents to the air from the factory....anyone?

So, if you install a blowoff valve, how do you let the computer know that it is releasing pressure? The computer thinks that this pressure is being re-routed back into the intake tract, right, thus administering more fuel, giving you a rich condition.

This is why no 1.8Ts have blowoff valves installed on them. There are, however, diverter valves being used that do away with the rubber bladder in favor of a metal piston. The stock DV can't handle the higher boost pressures of chipped cars.

So for a open atm. BOV to be used properly would you have to get a custom chip made or computer reprogrammed?or would using a Safc compensate for it?

I have heard from numerous turbo owners with factory turbo cars( mostly DSM guys) that vent their BOV to the atmosphere with no problems, yet out of all the people who say you can't do it, I have yet to hear of someone damaging anything because of it. Not saying that it won't, but I would like to hear from someone with a bad experience from it.

Naturally, if the stock BOV is not strong enough to stay closed at idle, you are going to have problems, but with a good factory OEM( which I believe the later model ones used on the WRX are) or a good aftermarket one, still waiting for some proof why venting them to the atmosphere is so catastrophic.
