This looks fantastic Jimbo. I have my flares, i'll be tackling this next weekend and the following week. I'll post pics as i go along. Will be on the white 06 wagon <- i'll probably start with white gloss krylon w/crystal clear enamel and see how things look. So excited to do this now that i've seen the finished product. Adds an extremely unique but subtle flare (hehe) to the GD wagons.

I am going to describe how i see the installation going thru my head: 1. bolt one side of the flare the the fender on the car. question: do i need to make any cuts in the flare to make it a bit more flexible or can i just pull on it? question 2" where can i zip tie the flare to? question 3: Jimbo, did you drill into the fender on your car? 2. drill holes into the fender at the top so to secure the top portion of the flare. 3. bolt down other end of flare. question: what if there are gaps or bulges? what did you do to fix that? Is this all there is to it or am i missing something? |

1. Cut the ends of the flare so that it sits flat against the body. Leave a small triangular piece of material so you can drill through it.
2. Line the flare up more or less where you want it and drill through both the flare( piece of material you left) and the inside of the fender. 3. Place a screw in that hole and secure that corner to the fender. 4. Pull/ stretch the flare by hand over to the other side. It's very flexible and won't break. Repeat step 2 on this corner. At this point you will have each corner of the flare attached to the fender by a screw on each corner. As it is, it will naturally sit flat because of the tension of the stretch. 5. I then went about 3/4 of the way up and drilled a hole through the inside lip of the flare as well as the inside edge of the fender and secured with a zip tie. Repeat on the other side. I don't have anything at the very top of the flare, it's really not necessary. Although, I have been playing with the idea of magnets, but I digress. |

Can you give me specs on the wheels you are running right now. I just want some idea of how wide I can go. I'm on some lowering springs.

18x8.5 +35. You can go quite a bit wider.

how do they work?
in all seriousness though i wouldn't do this, i'd rather rivet. magnets don't generally deal well with vibration which a car sees lots of. even the super strong ones won't hold with bad vibration and winds at 100+mph. unless they are electric. which is just hilariously stupid. |

The flares are already hard mounted and work just fine. I was toying with the idea of gluing a small, strong magnet inside the very top edge of the flare to hold that particular spot tight to the body, but it's not at all necessary. I will not rivet into the side of my car.

Here we go....
I apologize for the lack of step-by-step, most of this took place in the dark i THINK i'm going to leave them black for now- they go well with the lip. Now i need some seriously wider wheels! Couple of notes: - The rears did require a ton of trimming. It was a little unnerving to cut 3 inches off the front of the rear flares, but it had to go! I'm not completely happy with how this looks right now, but i may apply some bondo to the gap and then plasti dip black over it. I had to trim pretty aggressively to get the fit right between the door and the side skirt- i'll try and post pics of this - the tab at the back of the rear flares i decided i just screw straight into the bumper. I had no luck getting them to lay flat and i figured there was no going back. - I had two people helping me. It required some significant force to get both front rear where i wanted them, but they are not going anywhere. I only trimmed the fronts slightly, to remove the triangle plastic piece at the front of the flare so i could twist it enough to lay flush with the number, but it's still not completely flush right at the bottom edge. Probably be bondo-ing here as well. - should have cleaned up all the edges before i started bolting on, the finish on the mould edges leaves a little to be desired. -the fronts have a variety of hardware holding them in place... something like three screws in the bumper, one into the sideskirt, two into the fender lip, and two zip ties through the fender lip up towards the top of the flare. The rears are similar, but the angle between the flare and the fender lip wasn't as extreme so i was able to send a long screw through the flare into the fender lip. - punching holes in the metal pieces of your car makes me cringe. ****edit: LOL. looking at Serkan's pics, i put the fronts on the wrong sides. Welp, fuggit! Last edited by mechatricity; 11-06-2012 at 03:49 PM. |

The dichotomy is that on a wagon with my ride height, in order to even remotely fill those wheel wells, i'll have to cut out the fenders. Obviously has no aesthetic impact at this point, but it's hard to stomach!
